  • As shown in the picture, when using vertical tabs, the tab list has some tabs that will change to the start page, these tabs have pages, but in my daily use, when I open the tab list, sometimes it will still change to the start page, these lost pages in the tab list will change to the start page, open them and lose data, and forward and backward have no effect 😔.

I can't reproduce this error with a video because I found that the missing pages are not regular. If you use ios Orion on a daily basis you will definitely notice this problem. In my daily use, sometimes this problem always occurs, in fact it happened in the first few versions. At that time it was more frequent, but recently the stability of ios Orion has been improved and now it occurs less often compared to previous versions.

    Orion won't lose my page.

    • We are in the early phase of Orion for Linux. Asking community for feedback.

Gnome or KDE? Gnome will allow using WebKit. KDE (with Qt) is more portable (to Windows) but would steer towards using Chromium.

What should be our prioirties? Chime in!

      • Steps to reproduce:

        1. In Orion's settings, make sure "Start Orion With" is either "All Tabs from Last Session" or "All Non-Private Tabs from Last Session"
        2. Open some tabs
        3. Restart the app

        Expected behavior:
Tabs should not be closed when app restarts

        Orion, OS version; hardware type:

        App version: 1.2.8 (2) (WebKit 8615.1.26.10.23)
        System version: 16.4.0
        Device type: iPhone 12 Mini
        Native bounds: (1080.0, 2340.0)
        Scale: 3.0
        Regular tabs: 2/2/2/
        Private tabs: 0/0/0/(

        • Safari has the ability to take full-page screenshots of websites. It would be great if Orion had the same too. See pics compared.

          • if you don't know about the Shortcuts app, here are the official guides for macOS and iOS. Safari has a shortcut for opening many URLs at once:

Shorcuts integration would be a good way to automate some aspects of browsing and using Orion. Perhaps Orion could have the same set of shortcuts, and here are some ideas for others:

            • Open a set of links either in the main tab group, or in a specific one. Perhaps also in the tab group currently open in Orion (even if Orion is closed?)

              • Choose to open them in the background or foreground.
            • Create a new bookmark or set of bookmarks (takes text input like the shortcut shown above).

              • Either directly onto the bookmarks bar or in a specific folder.
            • Show a web view, like the Safari shortcut. This could be preferred over the Safari shortcut if it can load extensions like uBlock Origin, and maybe some other features in Orion I'm not thinking of.

            • Get all tabs open in plain text. Either tabs in all tab groups, or in a specific one.

            • I am not really sure if this is a bug or a feature request, but it seems that Profiles other than the "Default" one are not synced via iCloud. Perhaps this is hard to do with the current implementation or is planned.

              Steps to reproduce:
Have two desktop computers using Orion and syncing via iCloud. Create a new profile on machine A.

              Expected behavior:
I would expect the new profile to appear, after a couple of minutes, on machine B as an available profile with its own history, bookmarks, etc.

              • Steps to reproduce:
It started on Desktop. I didn't have Orion on iOS at that time. I've had Orion since Release 0.99.121, but now the newest release (Release 0.99.121) has given me issues to not being able to delete iCloud sync data (see images)

I've tried every version of uninstalling and reinstalling Orion. I even tried installing and uninstalling on iOS.
I tried deleting app data via iCloud from Desktop and Mobile (in iOS, delete just doesn't result in anything).
I called Apple Support. They said they can't delete App Data from iCloud on their end--which is weird--I'll try calling them again.

                Expected behavior:
Being able to delete Orion Synced App Data.

                • Steps to reproduce:
                  1) Open new tab and make any search via the url bar or by visiting kagi.com or google.com, do not open any links.
                  2) kill Orion or open other apps to cause Orion to get suspended
                  3) open Orion again, tabs that were on a search engine page are now on “start page” with history lost.

                  Expected behavior:
Tabs on search engine pages are not lost on app suspend.

                    • Steps to reproduce:
Blank state in latest version of Orion.
macOS tabs get reflected in iOS app (correct behavior)
iOS tab are stuck on an old state, wrong tabs are shown (wrong behavior)

                      Expected behavior:
Expect iOS tabs to sync on macOS browser.
To clarify, only the iOS to macOS sync appears broken. macOS to iOS is working as expected.

                      Idea:
Is there a way to purge state of sync? Is it possible it was corrupted in an earlier version?

                      • As a former Firefox user I miss a lot the more powerful address-bar history search provided by Firefox.

In Firefox you can type one or more words in the address bar and the browser will propose as possible matches in the drop down sites that contain all of the given words, for example:

The same in Orion does not work. If I enter "GitHub" it shows several possible matches, but if I add a space and a second word nothing will be proposed. I used this feature a lot in Firefox as it allowed me to rely on my history of browsing much more than on my bookmarks.

Do you think something like this could be added to Orion as well?

                        • EDIT: added installed plugins

                          Steps to reproduce:
When waking a sleeping tab or hibernating computer, some web pages are no longer rendered (blank page) and the URL bar is empty, so reloading the page won't work.

                          Expected behavior:
Web page and URL would be visible when tab is selected or computer wakes from sleep.

                          • This approach would be more flexible than using a hierarchical structure to categorise bookmarks. Firefox already supports this.

                            • This is just a thank you post for the people behind Orion browser. I really like Safari but due to the telemetry, and policies and etc. I always looked for other browsers.

Orion is a great alternative to everything that I used so far, giving you the Safari experience with extensions and more privacy focused it is something that I guess a lot of people have been waiting for a long time.

I see a lot of post about bugs and issues and there is probably tons of work for the developers, so just wanted to say thank you for their work.

                              • Vlad replied to this.
                                • The Orion FAQ claims that other browsers offer only an illusion of privacy, but Orion itself (alongside Firefox, Chrome, Brave, so on...) offer no tangible protection against rogue/malicious extensions.
                                  • Widely used and trusted (at the time) extensions have gone rogue before, Stylish for example, started data collecting for every page accessed, to then sell that data to advertisers and "public data" collectors. Others like Nano Defender, used the data for themselves to hijack logins.

Read "Why Johnny can't tell if he is compromised" by Thomas Dullien, the points it makes gets across quick and easy; this is the rationale these suggestions revolve around. The underlying purpose of these suggestions: to lessen the issue of an inherent lack of trust within extensions, by shifting some of the trust to the user of the Orion browser.

                                The suggestions:

                                • 1. The permission system for extensions
                                  • Prompting the same way macOS does for sensitive permissions is likely easiest for users, beyond that I don't know what to suggest.
                                • 2. Have a rogue extension blacklist as a supplement to the extension permission system; all extensions must be verified by this in order to install, with the option to override this being intentionally cumbersome (macOS's Gatekeeper does this for unknown Applications). By cumbersome, I'm thinking of replicating how macOS has you open Security & Privacy to allow a system extension; Orion would tell you where this is, maybe even open to it.
                                  • If an internet connection cannot be established to verify the extension signatures, Orion would state this situation and not allow installation of that extension.
                                  • Idea being to not entirely trust Orion's extension permission system, as it being bypassed is a possibility.
                                  • This also prevents some user error that the less tech literate would be susceptible to committing, given they attempt installing a blacklisted (rogue) extension.
                                • 3. Provide the tools to tell if an extension is rogue.
                                  • Log as much as possible that's important, with each event timestamped. Domains and IPs (alongside ASNs if it helps) would be a good start, as that's what I've seen rogue extensions require (when they actually don't need this). Hopefully the logging can also catch a rogue extension escaping to the internet through hijacking a different installed extension.
                                  • This should be an easy to learn (and use) feature by default, but not restricted enough to be security theatre.
                                • Vlad replied to this.
                                • From Discord, putting here as a suggestion. A per-tab view of system resource usage (CPU/RAM) might be useful for some users, in keeping an eye on performance or any tabs that are using up loads of resources.

                                  Vlad:

I can imagine a more passive version of this feature like "View Tab Info" which would show current CPU and memory usage of the tab?

Could be helpful or a useful precursor towards the automated "a tab is going haywire and using tonnes of CPU/RAM" that most browsers/engines implement.

                                  • Vlad replied to this.
                                  • Like Safari it would be neat if you also could store stuff like Credit Cards and Addresses for Autofill on the keychain.

                                    • I searched for this but couldn't find anything (which is surprising) – it would be great to be able to sync Orion settings between systems. Even if Orion is installed on only one system, sync capability could allow you to restore settings and history to a new Orion install, which would be really useful.

                                      • Vlad replied to this.
                                      • Steps to reproduce:
Open Orion and browse, leave it open for days, quit and relaunch.

                                        Expected behavior:
uBlock Origin should autoupdate to the latest version but does not (both from Firefox and Chrome store). I have to uninstall and then reinstall it. It's my only extension which the developer updates frequently, so I can't tell if other extensions are affected (Simple Translate, e.g.)
