Fortrikka There are a few issues with incognito

  1. It's not actually a window, rather a tab (i.e. cookies are restricted to individual tab and not entire window)
  2. It is fingerprintable

joystmp How is the fingerprintability of incognito tabs different from regular tabs wherein you delete all data on exit? Perhaps incognito mode with shared cookies for tabs?

Because apart from all data points (from regular tab), incognito is an added data point.

Perhaps incognito mode with shared cookies for tabs

What Orion does now is what Safari also does.

joystmp I get your sentiment. Then it should be added somehow to the preferences as an option. It should be quite simple to implement, simply delete the desired areas such as cookies, history, or bookmarks each time the browser is quit. It has already been implemented although it has to be done manually, so now what needs to be done is just for it to be done automatically every single the browser quits.

Thanks. So you are referring to this option (It would have been been useful if you uploaded this image for reference, to save our time)

So basically if I would leave the settings on the image, browser would delete all data.

          What about saved passwords?

It seems like it would be useful to have these same settings for :

          • When Orion closes a tab
          • When Orion quits

          Thoughts?

AFAIK Firefox doesn't allow clearing passwords on exit.

Yes, the browser will clear selected options on exit.

Site settings refer to site specific preferences (that have been modified from default).

I don't know the positives for having all these settings for when a tab is closed (maybe, private window can be used for this or CookieAutoDelete extension)

I think, it makes most sense for when browser quits.

I understand, it looks like a missed opportunity?

Site settings refer to site specific preferences (that have been modified from default).

Screenshot please. Any idea how would this look in Orion because are site settings are usually one variable, not multiple in a group like this?

I remember this being requested previously (I guess there are users super conscious about privacy)

What if someone deletes all passwords by mistake?

                Screenshot please.

I don't have screenshot for this. Basically what I understand is that, suppose by default, camera is disabled for all websites except one. So clearing Site settings would also delete this exception, else it will persist across sessions.

Any idea how would this look in Orion because are site settings are usually one variable, not multiple in a group like this?

You already have Websites window in preferences where site specific settings are saved.

I remember this being requested previously (I guess there are users super conscious about privacy)

In that case, have a look at this extension https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cookie-autodelete/ I do not know how much it is functional in Orion.

You already have Websites window in preferences where site specific settings are saved.

This allows a single setting to be toggled (usually on/off) per site. In this case the user may want different settings for auto-delete on quit per website?

                    Vlad

different settings for auto-delete on quit per website

Even Firefox doesn't allow that much of a granularity.

joystmp Our goal is not to be same as other browsers but better! 😉 Thanks for the suggestion.

joystmp In Firefox about:preferences#privacy, under Cookies and Site Data heading, you'll find Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed with Manage Exceptions beside it.

                        This option looks like this:

I like it because Firefox will automatically clear cookies, cache, third-party data of the first-party site, etc. of all websites once I close it. I can add websites I want to allowlist under Manage Exceptions.

That way, I don't have to constantly re-login back into sites I use every day, while deleting less frequented site data.

                        • This would be classified as a privacy feature and is something already implemented in Chromium and Firefox.
                        • In a similar way to allowing exceptions to cookie usage, exceptions should be able to be created for not clearing cookies and site data on close.
                          • The ability to add exceptions in the website settings menu would be extremely convenient and would be a major UX improvement over other browsers.
                        • This functionality provides more convenience over simply disabling cookies and allowing exceptions.
                        • Such functionality is recommended by PrivacyGuides.org in their browser hardening guide.

I personally require this feature in any browser and is the primary reason I do not use Safari.

Merged 2 posts from Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows.

@Vlad I posted this comment, but then it shows me as [deleted] website was glitched, it didn't load at first. Now it's fine.

Hot off the press: Firefox plans to streamline both of these options together (Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed and Clear history when Firefox closes), which probably should've been done a long time ago.

                                  3 months later

Hi, I'm also looking for this option. See screenshot.

This is really useful in Firefox. This is the only thing that's missing for me to switch from Firefox to Orion/Kagi.

This helps for example: when I'm sharing my laptop with someone else, I just need to close the browser and open it up again. History becomes blank, but because of the way I ticked the boxes in the screenshot, my logins/cookies are still there and I don't have to log back in again.

Another way to do that kind of behaviour would be to manually click "Clear browsing data" every time someone wants to use the laptop, but it feels like the person has something to hide (?).

Not to mention other use cases, e.g. someone else might be OK with keeping history but want to be logged off all websites on Exit, then s/he would tick "Cookies" and "Active Logins" for example.
