Unfortunately, the issue is still not fixed, also with the latest RC. I'd say the page reloading got even worse for me. A concrete example is a Google Doc's file I try to work on. I am not able to type more then 3 words before the page gets reloaded again when within saved window.
Refresh loops (page randomly reloading)
Vlad The second day and it's ok
Vlad Updated to the latest RC last night and that addressed the kagi.handleFeedURLs issue.
However, the reloading issue persists for me.
I did get several process crash messages from this latest Orion while testing the refresh issue but I can't find any CrashReporter/etc files to submit. Is there something I need to enable for those to be saved so that I can share back to the team?
FYI updated to latest RC last night [Version 0.99.126.4.1.11-rc (WebKit 619.1.1)] and still have the not loading/refreshing issue under Catalina.
One thing i notice is that the Google results page works (or not) slightly differently under Orion with the old content blocker database loaded versus the latest. I hadn't been updating the Content Blocker database with each Orion update so by default my RC browsers are back at 1/1/24 7:00pm. With one of the latest RC but not updating the Content Blocker database, the hover over started working again such that for example when I hover over a link from Google results, it underlines. When I updated the Content blocker database after an RC update, the hover over broke. This hover-over behavior is not important to me but rather mentioning in case a clue to the issue. Happy to try alternate experiments around this if helpful. Or if not clear yet what I am talking about will post a video.
FYI I have tried all these tests with Compatibility Mode enabled (or not) and it doesn't make a difference in this issue.
FYI, I downloaded and tested each version of Orion for this issue on Catlina and found it only started for me with the Jan 1 RC. I have no problems with this on Catalina with "Version 0.99.126.4.1-beta (WebKit 618.1.2) Build date Dec 14 2023". But I hit the issue starting with "Version 0.99.126.4.1.3-rc (WebKit 618.1.7) Build date Jan 1 2024"
Alternatively I notice the RC don't share the same profiles, etc as the Beta. Could it be not so much the browser/engine but the RC releases are not finding something they need? Note I did test for the issue in the RC after a Reset Orion but it didn't make a difference.
Otherwise the obvious difference between the Beta and thh RC is the Webkit -- 618.1.2 in the last Beta that worked while the issue appears starting with the RC with 618.17 and continues through the RC with 619.1.1.
I tested the latest Orion RC with the frameworks from the last Orion Beta and it fixed the refresh/reload issue I have under Catalina. I remembered something I read on the WebKit site and used DYLD_FRAMEWORK_PATH to use the WebKit and other frameworks from the Dec 14 Beta (i.e. WebKit 618.1.2 along with WebCore and other supporting frameworks) with the latest. While I am sure there are drawbacks to mixing and matching applications and frameworks this way, I figured it might be a quick way to distinguish the issue to the main application or one of the frameworks (e.g. WebKit).
If I set and export DYLD_FRAMEWORK_PATH to the last Orion Beta/Contents/Frameworks in Terminal and then run the latest Orion RC, it passes all my tests cases. If I then unset DYLD_FRAMEWORK_PATH and then run Orion RC, I am back to the refresh/reload issue.
I upgraded RC on Desktop today (twice). Subsequently, was viewing. a discord page and the page kept reloading. First time I have noticed it. Had to turn off JavaScript on the page, as it was unreadable with the frequent reloads.
Just now, I sat down at the iPad and refreshed a tab with a japanese lesson on it. Navigated to a new lesson, and the lesson page now reloads, and then goes into a linked page (not one which is useful).
App version: 1.3.8 (9) (WebKit 8618.1.15.10.15)
System version: 17.4.1
Device type: iPad Pro 5 12.9"
Native bounds: (2048.0, 2732.0)
Scale: 2.0
Regular tabs: 1/1/1/
Private tabs: 0/0/0/(

amgems Hi amgems, this may be a different issue that manifests itself with similar symptoms. Can you confirm which version of the RC you are running on your desktop? Also the OS?
Then the issue with the iPad may or may not be related. As Apple forces all browsers and other applications on the iPad (and iOS) platforms to use the same system provided WebKit, an issue that presents in Orion but not Safari on that platform implies the issue is in the main Orion and not the WebKit framework (vice versa, if both Safari and Orion show the same bugs on those platforms then the issue is likely in WebKit, which Orion can't directly address under current Apple policies). However, I believe the issue originally reported in this thread was isolated to the WebKit framework.
In any case, I would suggest reporting desktop and iPad issues seperately -- perhaps adding a link or reference to other if the same website or actions manifest the same bug on both. Then they can be tracked, updated, and eventually closed independently.
@Vlad, is there a way to include more debugging or reporting information from these refresh issues? It seems that whenever something goes wrong in the thread/process that supports a tab/window, it crashes/refreshes with symptoms that are very similar even if the issues are in very different parts of the code/triggered by very different user actions/websites.
This issue persists. I now have disabled Orion sync completely as the only solution to stop refresh loops during authentication.

Vlad This has definitely something to do with the Sync feature. I've been experiencing the same page reload problem on random web sites in random tabs. And it's not even a page reload, actually — Orion just navigates to the same URL as the first one in the history for the given tab at some random point in time and it happens for several tabs at once. Looks like an iCloud Sync event occurs that makes it do so. Another Orion instance open on another MacBook may be also affected, may be not — but when it is affected, it either does the same or just randomly tosses the same tabs around when it happens. Disabling Sync on one of the devices is a 100% working solution for me that stops this madness. But Sync is so practical...
I have Orion installed for only a couple of days but I'm already in love with its slick UI and all (I'm an Arc switcher where I switched to from Safari — can't stand Chrome and Firefox monsters at all for too many reasons). Please let's get it fixed -) Your browser is amazing, the dual extension support is just brilliant (even though it's not 100% complete). I can provide you with more details if necessary.
PS. Orion.app "About" details:
Version 0.99.129-beta (WebKit 619.1.11.111.2)
Build date Oct 27 2024
Mac Studio (macOS Sequoia 15.1.1 build 24B91)
PPS. Disabling Sync on both devices and then reenabling it again seems to help as well (no more random reloads since I did it last time a few moments ago). But I experienced it before and my guts tell me it will happen again soon.

truedmik I've just tried to install the latest version:
Version 0.99.130-beta (WebKit 621.1.2.111.4)
Build date Dec 11 2024
Mac Studio (macOS Sequoia 15.1.1 build 24B91)
Unfortunately, the problem with iCloud Sync persists. It's so bad that it makes the Sync feature completely unusable... E.g. when trying to work with my account details on Hetzner.com, Orion is constantly kicking me off to the some preceding URL in the tab history and Hetzner eventually blocks my IP from accessing their website because it finds such frequent and random requests suspicious:
I simply cannot edit my credit card details because of that any more. Too sad. Disabling Sync in Preferences immediately stops this behaviour and this is the only way I can use the website. Hetzner is a random example, I'm seeing this on many other websites too (e.g. grok.com, a custom FreeScout installation web site and so on).
Vlad Thanks for your reply! Sorry for the late response (I didn't get any notifications about new messages) — this problem has gone away with subsequent Orion updates, I didn't see anything like that in a long time. But now there is another major flaw, please see https://orionfeedback.org/d/10443-constant-crashes-page-reloads-google-services-are-unusable.
