Any plans for a Linux and/or Windows release? And android?

Kagi has literally changed my life, so I'm really excited to see what Orion has to offer!

We are getting a lot of repeat questions about windows/linux/android version and sometimes it appears that users think that the team is choosing not to work on these platforms. The situation is quite different and simpler - we do not have the resources to hire a new team to do any of these platforms yet.

And since Orion is funded by its users only, it is entirely up to the number of subscribers and Orion+ sales we have that will enable funding a new team to make Orion for any new platform. And building a browser is not cheap, especially one on top of WebKit.

Ways you can help accelerate this is:

    • Contribute to Orion development with your time
    • Help spread the word about Orion to attract more users
    • Get Orion+ and financially support developmet

Well, Apple-only browser is a joke. I mean yeah, it's nice but it makes almost zero sense to prefer this over Firefox which can sync data across all the platforms.

I would be most interested in a version which is compatible with Debian and/or Fedora. Those two distros are the primary linux flavors in QubesOS, and Debian is the foundation for the default OS on the Librem5 (PureOS).
Either way, if packaged for Debian, being adaptive to mobile size screens would be a nice touch, to support usage on a Librem5 and/or Pine Phone.
As a side note, it would be an honor to test any beta version (even alpha) for any linux distro if the opportunity arises.
By the way, thank you for developing this browser and the Kagi search engine. I tip my hat to you for making ethical business decisions.

Happy to do other platforms when we are in the position to hire 5-10 more developers. We are not Google, Apple or even Mozilla. The browser you see has been created by less than 5 people.

I actually haven't seen the browser (although I am supporting it) because I only use *BSD and linux distros; however, I can still say that the amount of work 5 people have accomplished is astonishing. Developing and maintaining a modern browser is a monumental task. You have an amazing team!
I, for one, am glad you are not Google, Apple, or Mozilla. Being receptive to eventually support other platforms when you have the time and resources is good enough for me.
        Thank you.

Well, I agree with every single word Nix said. You guys are amazing, and I hope you can keep doing the work you are doing without the need for "selling out".

Thank you Vlad, for your amazing work and for the quick reply!

Gentle reminder to anyone reading this in the future.

Users paying for Orion is the only way Orion is financed.

We hope to first sustain the Mac browser team, and then be able to expand the team for Linux next.

We are probably looking at needing about 10,000 supporters to be able to do that.

Please provide support for other OS such as Windows 10/11 and this would be great.

Forgive me but, I don't understand why Windows support would even be wanted? The main pro of the Orion browser is that it's built on WebKit, meaning it runs great on MacOS, while using very little system resources. This doesn't transfer to Windows.
The only real need I can personally see for a Windows version would be for bookmark/tab syncing purposes, in which case I think some sort of extension for Firefox/Chrome would be a better solution. This would free up developer time massively as developing and fixing bugs is already extremely time consuming for one platform, never mind two.

Windows build is clearly unrealistic but I'm interested in how I can improve my experience as a iphone+PC user (as most iPhone users are!). Microsoft recently turned off the 'continue on pc' app 🙁 but at least I can send a tab from Orion iOS to eg Firefox windows by sharing to Firefox and choosing which device to send to - it's very elegant https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/send-tab-from-another-mobile-app-to-firefox

Would love to hear similar tips. Is there a working extension to sync history cross platform?

Would never put money behind a product or team that goes the Apple first class citizen ecosystem route; good luck with Kagi though, that is an excellent product.

Hi this is more a question and not an issue, is there any plans that Kati would develop or making Orion available on Linux operating systems. I would really be thankful if that's the case ?
