Orion for Windows / Android / Linux

We are getting a lot of repeat questions about windows/linux/android version and sometimes it appears that users think that the team is choosing not to work on these platforms. The situation is quite different and simpler - we do not have the resources to hire a new team to do any of these platforms yet.
And since Orion is funded by its users only, it is entirely up to the number of subscribers and Orion+ sales we have that will enable funding a new team to make Orion for any new platform. And building a browser is not cheap, especially one on top of WebKit.
Ways you can help accelerate this is:
- Contribute to Orion development with your time
- Help spread the word about Orion to attract more users
- Get Orion+ and financially support developmet
Hey, I loved Safari on Windows but it has been abandoned by Apple and as far as I know, there is no app like it for this platform. When I found out about Orion I was SUPER excited but was disappointed to see that it has no app for Windows, could you please make one for it? And if possible could we have it work on older versions of Windows too? At least as back as XP. I like to work with older computers and operating systems and really anything older than Windows 10 is not fully supported or exists. For older OSs, it would be nice to have a safe up to date browser for when I need to go online on older Windows versions and to have one as the main browser on Windows 10/11. (If you can get it into the Microsoft Store that would be pretty nice too.) I know most Windows 10 and 8 apps with some fixing in the code can work as early as Vista so I would think if your making the app have a wide range of support should be easy. Anyways I am looking forward to the future of this browser and I REALLY hope it will be known as one of the big ones like Google Chrome or Firefox, ect.

NolanTheEpic Yep once we get to about 10,000 paid supporters we will probably be able to muster a Windows devlopment team (or Linux, depending what users want first). Currently at about 100.
Developing a proper Windows browser from scratch (based on very outdated WebKit) will probably cost around $1M-$2M USD if you are thinking about sponsoring this issue
Vlad Thanks, I just found out about it, Snazzy Lab posted a video earlier today on the best free Mac OS apps and that is how I found it. I came here as soon as I found out.
Vlad Not an Orion user yet, though I'm considering to buy a macbook some time and if I do Orion will definitely be my daily browser. I'm definitely supporting you with a subscription if that happens. I'm wondering though, how better is the company doing since September 2022. Is the subscribers count growing fast? Has the numbers of developers increased? What's the best way we can help? I really hope this project doesn't fail in the future.

I pay for Kagi Search and would like to support Orion but I'm a Linux user exclusively on all my devices.
I have limited income and would like to use it in the most efficient way. I wouldn't like to start paying for Orion if that's only funding macOS work and years from now I don't get a browser on Linux and I'm left with only the good feeling of supporting an alternative to Chrome but I can't use it.
Maybe a compromise would be a crowdfunding campaign to get X dollars to fund a Linux development team for Y months and then see where things go from there. I'd certainly contribute money towards that goal specifically. And then the general contributors continue towards the 10000 goal mentioned above, in parallel.
I think two main factors can play a major role.
One is the quantity of demand on each platform, which is directly connected to satisfying more users and therefore generating more revenue. The other is which platform is the easiest/fastest to implement in, so that more users can be covered the easiest/fastest way possible.
Vlad Consider Orion for Windows based on Blink? I have some experience with Blink, can I become a contributor?
Really love Kagi and love the idea of Orion. Bought the lifetime support. There is demand for Orion on windows and other platforms as well.
Just sponsored this issue - not a lot of money but something, as I'm broke currently
I'm mostly a Windows user for browsing so that's where I would use it the most, but develop in Ubuntu so either one would be great.
What does your feature entail? What is it for? How will it affect existing workflows or user experience?
With the upcoming release of Asahi Linux for the M-based Macs, it'd be nice to be able to stick with Orion when making the leap. Linux and MacOS are both unix-like so it shouldn't be too hard to port it over. Right? I might be wrong.
What are the exact ways that you see a user using your proposed feature? Please go into as much detail as possible, and provide examples of how other browsers/apps implement this feature, if applicable. If your feature suggestion adds on to an existing feature, how would it work into it to extend its usefulness?
It'd be great to have all my passwords and bookmarks and history be consistent when booting into Asahi and booting into MacOS without the hassle of using two different browsers
Became a + supporter to support development of a Linux version! Great work so far, thank you.
Vlad this guy is very mean. banned me after i made 10 posts here to get RC -_-
We are in the early phases of Orion for Linux. Please chime in here!
