As both chrome and Firefox already had multiple search engine search. There's extension for that for safari, however.
For example: after setting up keyword "bing %s" for searching for "bing.com/search?q=%s", type in "Bing abcde" it'll be searching in bing for abcde instead of the default google engine as set.

duckduckgo bangs (e.g. !b and whatnot) fix precisely this problem. IMO implementing it on a browser level instead of a search engine level is kind of overkill; I have seen this feature in both chrome and firefox but have always preferred just using ddg bangs instead, saves a few keystrokes.

Nvm just discovered a feature called "bookmark invocation keywords" in Orion but would've been great if I don't need to add a bookmark.

Currently, the address and invocation character/keyword fields are only accessible via the edit bookmark dialog. This makes the feature very difficult to discover. Even for users who have used similar features in the browsers, this is an unintuitive place to look for it.

The minimum ask is that an invocation keyword field is added to the search engines add/edit dialog [Preferences > Search > Manage > +]. I suspect that's where people who have used these features before in other browsers are most likely to look for them.

Vlad changed the title to Search invocation keywords should be added to manage search engine .

While you're there... It is currently compulsory to fill in the "Suggestion URL template". As I'm not using suggestions, I have to fill in a space character. Please make filling in the "Suggestion URL template" field optional, by allowing it to be empty. Thanks!

i managed to make it work with rateyourmusic.org but not with YouTube. is there a guide for how to extract search template from websites?

Vlad On firefox you get this feature by right-clicking directly on the search input field of the website. Firefox generate the input search field automatically. You just need to add the keyword.

verve1n Please make this a seperate feature suggestion post

<Use a descriptive title! This is what most users will see before upvoting your suggestion. Then, describe your suggestion in detail, including how should it be implemented in Orion and what your expectation is. If relevant, upload screenshots/videos examples for the feature from other browsers.>

brahim link leads to 404, but I do believe chrome way is better, tab to enter search mode for a specific search engine

                        ex:

you + enter = youtube.com page, as it is a top hit url
you + tab = youtube search mode, now I can enter in a search query

if not tab, some sort of indication that a search is happening would be nice.
