While you're there... It is currently compulsory to fill in the "Suggestion URL template". As I'm not using suggestions, I have to fill in a space character. Please make filling in the "Suggestion URL template" field optional, by allowing it to be empty. Thanks!
Search invocation keywords should be added to manage search engine
i managed to make it work with rateyourmusic.org but not with YouTube. is there a guide for how to extract search template from websites?
<Use a descriptive title! This is what most users will see before upvoting your suggestion. Then, describe your suggestion in detail, including how should it be implemented in Orion and what your expectation is. If relevant, upload screenshots/videos examples for the feature from other browsers.>
brahim It is aleady possible https://help.kagi.com/orion/features/quick-searches.html
I tried it, it works, Here's how I used to do it in chrome, it's more simple and organized

brahim link leads to 404, but I do believe chrome way is better, tab to enter search mode for a specific search engine
ex:
you + enter = youtube.com page, as it is a top hit url
you + tab = youtube search mode, now I can enter in a search query
if not tab, some sort of indication that a search is happening would be nice.
EnderPicture It is not clear how would Orion know how to search a site. I tried kagif+tab in chrome and it did not give me kagifeedback search. I then laoded kagifeedback.org in chrome and after that it still did not give me ability to search it with kagif+tab.
Vlad while automatic search detection is nice, it is not required. The idea is that tab activates alternate search engine. for example if my keyword is youtube
for youtube search, now I can not easily search youtube related things like "youtube downloader" would be searching for the word downloader on youtube.
the idea is that the search engine keyword behaves like a "Top Hits" in this mode, I should be able to hit tab and go into search mode. It should auto complete the search engine, not requiring exact keyword for custom search to work. Manually setting query location is ok.
also having the search engine determined by a book mark is a bit strange. I would never would want to click on that bookmark, needs to be hidden away in a folder somewhere.
maybe the solution is for a domain name, say "youtube.com" you are able to set it a search engine with extra search template bound to the domain unrelated to book marks. anytime this domain shows up in auto complete and tab is pressed, search mode activates which now a query can be entered.
hopefully it makes sense.
EnderPicture I think what you really want is this https://orionfeedback.org/d/1602-search-invocation-keywords-should-be-added-to-manage-search-engine
I know this is extremely nitpicky, but I really like how in other browsers, I can set up these custom shortcuts in the browser Settings, and then when I invoke the keyword, it shows "Search [website]:" (or even better, the website's icon) in the address bar before my query.
It's just a nice touch that makes the browser experience feel a little more cohesive and sleek. Here's an example of what I'm talking about.
In Brave, I can go to Settings > Search engine, and in Site search, I can set up all my custom search shortcuts.
I use this for normal search (e.g., Merriam-Webster Dictionary is 'mw')
Which appears like this in the browser address bar:
Of course, I can also use the shortcuts for neat tricks like navigating directly to a subreddit by typing, e.g., 'r orionbrowser'
Which, of course, you can already do in Orion, I'm just trying to show how it feels more elegant the way some other browsers do it.

The holy grail for me would be if the website icon populated in the address bar when you invoke the search keyword, which would make it even more aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly (but no other browser does this as far as I know).
At minimum though, it would be really nice if the bookmarks themselves were better at populating the website icon. A bunch of my bookmarks are missing icons, and it's unclear why. (Sorry, this may be a separate post.) The icon just makes it easier to see at a glance what custom searches you have.
