I wish there was a way to hide the library section I think that would look a lot nicer and more usable, as I never reach for bookmarks in this menu when I can go to the menu bar. I think the searchbar that was here before was more useful, maybe make that an option?

I also think this is a bug, when clicking bookmarks, the sidebar resizes, and doesn't return to its original size when returning back to normal tab view.

Additionally, I would love to see an implementation more akin to how I have Vivaldi set up, possibly a compact mode for the side bar? I like to keep my side tab menu extremely small and personally i think the current collapsed implementation looks pretty bad to me, and wastes a lot of space. I feel like there is too much wasted padding under "Open tabs" due to the nature of having a library section and tabs section, and requiring the indent/padding beneath.

    For compact mode:

    • Does Vivaldi support tree style tabs and if yes where is the space for the arrow?
    • Does vivaldi show audio indicator and allows you to mute a tab?
    • How do you close a tab in vivaldi?

        tree style tabs are handled in several options, but i use mine like this:

        the close tab button appears when you hover over the tab, and
        replaces the favicon. however you can also set it to be on the right like orion. it also shows the audio indicator on the right side only when audio is being played

                When the sidebar is at the small size, hovering over the favicon of the current tab will allow you to close it, however it will not appear on the non current tabs, and will just switch to that tab when clicked

                        One way to do this would be a "compact" mode with icons only which expands to its full width on hover, much like Edge or this extension to Firefox works. This would also solve a problem of tree layout being unmanageable in compact mode:

                        I would prefer it to work that way, I honestly miss the "on-hover" expand from Firefox, but I can't go back, Orion's too fast 😃

                            All of this apart from the audio playing indicator is not really needed to be shown in the minimized version imo, because the tree arrow and x to close are the elements you'd need to interact with to get any use from them (so you'll hover on them, and the tab bar will expand to near-full width). As for the audio playing indicator, in LibreWolf it looks like this (the icon itself is probably fubar-ed because of the dark/light theme inconsistency between my tab bar and the browser itself):

                                FallenChromium Auto expanding the control on hover is really not a part of HIG and I haven't seen it in any Apple app. Can you find a precedent? (this is a part of the requirement of Orion being a fully native app)

                                    I'm also looking for this option.

                                    I want to remove the part in red rectangle from Vertical Side Bar. Basically be able to customise that so it's just a tab bar that's vertical.

                                      Vlad You know what, you're right, I haven't seen this in any Apple app to date. Force touch behavior comes to mind, but it's different. I've come to think about it - hover is not very good for accessibility, probably that's why it's not been widely used. Though I would still love for the tab bar to become narrower at it's min width, alike to the example I've sent you. Perhaps detaching a tab bar from the "traffic lights" buttons would be a good call here (idk what's the alternative option as per guidelines though).

                                      What about a manual expand to become easier by the way? Maybe we could do something like an arrow button to expand the vertical bar (a hotkey would be desperately needed, too). Usually there's a button to hide the side menu (Think "Console" app, but a lot of Apple apps have that pattern), but a small preview is still essential for a complete browsing experience, so a button nearby the Window switcher (or maybe inside the tab bar itself) to expand/collapse it without manually fiddling with it would be great. As an addition you could also implement "magnetizing" to a minimum and default value, so that it would be easier for user to set up the tab bar width.
