I've never really had an issue with the way in which Safari handles the URL bar in compact tab mode. I much prefer it over the 'Separated' tabs mode. Whilst I don't have any particular objection to the methods demonstrated that Orion might implement this, but in my opinion (you asked for feedback), I don't even think there is a problem that needs solving.

The biggest UI issue I have with Safari's Compact tabs, is the way the tab's icon is replaced by a close button. When moving my mouse to switch tabs I'm naturally drawn to the icon, and instinctively aim for it when moving my mouse pointer. As you might expect, I find myself constantly closing a tab instead of selecting it. I would rank this as being a far more important issue to resolve if implementing compact tabs in Orion.

      Sorry this is semi-related.
I mainly use vertical tab bar and I often toggle it when needed. But when I hide the vertical tab bar, the horizontal tab bar shows up automatically.
There is an option in the "view" menu to hide the tab bar, but it is greyed out.

Is this a bug or is it default behaviour?

Hi, I would be so nice seeing the Compact Mode that Safari has where tabs are in one unique line on top, along with extensions and tools and make this unique line transparent that changes the color based on the page you're visiting exactly like Safari does (example: if the color of the website is green, the line will be green, if the website is black, the line will be black) to make it more immersive 🙂

Compact Tab layout of Safari browser will be nice to have in Orion's appearance as well.

I would love to see this layout as well. It's one of my primary reasons for preferring Safari -- the experience feels a lot more fluid on account of it. I'm just curious: is this feature expected to show up in the beta?

sshiva Yes, everything on this site that is marked as planned is expected to show up at some point.

one suggestion, it would be nice to be able to have "compact mode" enabled, so the toolbar is short, but keep the tabs a bit taller. right now in compact mode, the tabs are smaller than the toolbars, and that feels weird, since the tabs are the main thing, not the toolbar.

Cristian Yes immersive was the word I was looking for, even though there are far better browsers than safari I keep going back to it only for this thing. The compact tab thingy is simply the best design in browser market.

I know some people might find this obnoxious, but this genuinely one of my favourite design elements of new Safari, and it would be incredible to see this in Orion.

scarfacedeb Judging from Vlad's mockup's above, it will be better than Safari's implementation. I assume that this would be an alternatvie option to classic tabs so people won't be forced to use it...

I love compact tabs in Safari, and will be happy to see it in Orion.

Using version 0.99.123.1-beta now; I would say the compact design on Orion is my favorite design, it is great in terms of usability, it is low-profile and no-bs! Please keep it! Much more superior than safari compact design!!!

I like how the Safari team did this for the compact tabs as well and it's one of my favourite design elements of Safari. Would like to see this in Orion!
