What happened? How did it happen? What are the steps to replicate the issue.

Youtube just added a blocker that prevents any adblocker from working on their site(Which is fine since it is their main source of income), but Orion(even in compatibility mode) still gets detected as using an adblocker.

This is very annoying because I now can't use YouTube at all with Orion browser 🙁

Here it is(I also sent feedback to YouTube):

On: Mac M1, MacOS Ventura

What did you expect to happen? Describe the desired functionality.
I expected YouTube to just work. Youtube should at least work in Compatibility mode(with ads), if not getting around the ad blocker(I'm not sure if anyone has done that yet).

Btw, the Youtube Anti-Adblocker was updated sometime within the last week.

Also, Youtube doesn't work in Safari(same issue), but ... Orion's content filter lists don't give an ad-free experience anymore. For now, signing out prevents that window from appearing.

What version of Orion are you running?
0.99.125-beta (WebKit 616.1.22)

Edit: YouTube works (most of the time) in compatibility mode for me. But to watch Ad free YouTube content I had to install an additional ad blockers extension and occasionally change my User Agent. Sadly, Orion's inbuilt content blockers still don't work for me.

Maxi Btw, the Youtube Anti-Adblocker was updated sometime within the last week.

From what I gather, YouTube is updating these components daily or even multiple times a day to detect and block ad-blockers. This may be beyond the scope of what the Orion devs can fix

Same issue here - can't play anything on Orion even with uBlock Origin extension disabled and in Orion Compatibility Mode.

scottjeffers I tried installing that Tube Block extension, didn't change anything

I tried the chrome extension but no luck 🙁.

I know Orion's team might not have the time for this stuff, but there are public rule lists(that are being actively maintained) that Orion could just add to their existent lists that could fix this issue(without too much trouble).

I hope a fix comes soon, I see its already under planned.

It works pretty well with the newest version of Orion RC 🙂

      Hey everyone,

Check out this solution posted on Reddit by the actual Ublock Origin people. Seems to work for everyone who has tried according to the comments:

Playing devil advocate here. I hate when websites do these types of adblock checking etc, but YouTube still needs to make money to survive and pay for expenses and the creators.
I have YouTube premium, one of the few subscriptions I have, mainly because of YT music which I prefer over spotify. I have been paying for a couple of years now and will continue to do so unless they throw me ads even though I pay (like Twitter/X does).

Recently I found a way of having complete cashback of what I pay for YouTube Premium, using one of those crypto cards and then I receive that crypto and convert it back to eur. Almost 100% full cashback (some transaction fees on exchanges and stuff).
This is not the place to advertise such, I might write about the subject in a article or something but if you want help feel free to email me. It's my username here @ gmail.com. Either that or check the website in my profile, you'll find my emails there.

Again, playing devil's advocate, paying for premium (with or without cashback) solves your problem right away.

P.S. I am not affiliated on any of those platforms, just taking advantage of VC money that they are throwing at every crypto/blockchain/AI companies. I do get referral bonus, but I will explain it to you even if you don't use my referral link.

I used to change the user agent to bypass the adblocker-block, but today it just works with iPad user agent 😅
Even for me when using compatibilily mode somehow i can't still play the videos because of the block.

Maxi This is very annoying because I now can't use YouTube at all with Orion browser

You can still pay for YouTube premium, just as they suggest in the message.

you should still fix your filter list

What puts you in the position to make such demands?

It would be cook if orion had like an integratd extension of sorts that would block this new shit they put up, i think it would gather more users too with this. Normal adblockers dont work anymore

          ,

Merged 3 posts from Youtube has now blocked adblockers..

Maxi Youtube should at least work in Compatibility mode(with ads),

I read OP as saying he wants to use Orion and play videos WITH the ads. I would agree to wanting at least thiis functionality, even if potentially changing some Orion settings on Youtube.com.

EDIT: in reading above posts, I changed User Agent to iPad and it worked. Is this the best current solution?
EDIT2: using iPad user agent prevents keyboard keys (J,K,L etc) to work
EDT3: Sorry for multiple edits, selecting Agent "Edge" seems to work

              5 days later

First time today I am unable to play any Youtube video due to detecting the adblock. Even removing the toggle on "Enable Content Blockers" and "Enable Intelligent Tracking Prevention" doesn't make it works.

Only switching to Safari iPad as user agent (with "Enable Content Blockers" and "Enable Intelligent Tracking Prevention" still ON) seems to make it works, but the interface is far from useful on a desktop browser.

              Any suggestions? Thanks.

I had this issue and couldn't figure it out initially. I just realized I had a script installed via tampermonkey (anti-adblocker killer) that YT was detecting. I haven't had any issues since removing that script.
