Don't close the whole window when I have pinned tabs please!!
- Edited
i can reproduce (under certain situations). working on getting a clear video of it
also, there is a bug with showing the x on the first non-pinned tab: it sometime appears, sometimes it doesn't as shown in the video

all scenarios will start the same way, open two tabs, pin the first one
scenario 1
observe how the window closes with cmd-w
this led to orion crashing
scenario 2
observe how the window does NOT close pressing x, but then closes with a cmd-w on the new page
this led to orion crashing
scenario 3
same as this: viewsourc3
observe how the window does NOT close with clicking the x, and does NOT close from the right click menu
scenario 4
observe how the window does NOT close with right click menu, and does NOT close from right click menu
from this i can see that the function of right click->close tab does the same thing as the right click menu, but cmd-w does something different

I see!
This behaviour doesn't trouble me, but at least it probably provided clarification to the team.
FWIW, Safari has the same behaviour. Maybe that can help the Orion team.
Detailed explanation from Eirk is absolutely right! Closes the whole window with CMD+W on the last non-pinned tab, but keeps the window open when 'x' is pressed on the last non-pinned tab.
skidbanger Thats the exact behavior Safari uses, we just need to remove "Close Tab" option from context menu when only unpinned tab without close button to match the behavior with Safari.
Please add little more detail what exactly this is missing, also please test same scenario with Safari
dino Yes, same behaviour as Safari, but (to me) it doesn't make sense. Ideal behaviour, even for Safari, would be to keep the window open with only pinned tabs remaining (as is the behaviour in Chromium-based browsers). Orion does everything better than Safari, I'm sure you guys can crack this too!
skidbanger It is not clear that it is better, just something a chrome user is used to . A Safari user coming to Orion could disagree. So we we will leave this to get more upvotes.
Safari greys out the "Close Tab" option when there are only pinned tabs open. This allows a user to change the "Close Tab" behavior using the keyboard shortcuts. I've had this setup for year, so pressing command+w will only close the tabs, not the window.
This is with my shortcut change applied. By default the command+w will show on "Close Window" if there are no tabs or only pinned tabs. By remapping command+w it will only close tabs.
System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts... > App Shortcuts
sullimander Thanks. Can you define what the ask is?
I would like command+w to not close the window if closing the last tab. I was illustrating that it's possible to achieve this with Safari.
Moved over to Orion from Arc (and previously brave/chrome) and I'm constantly having to leave a random tab open so I don't close my window with pinned tabs that I use in different profiles. Would love to see a toggle for this if time ever permits. Thanks!

I am experiencing the same issue as erik has described. I would really like Orion to not close the window if I close my last non-pinnned tab.
Love the browser and kagi, thank you so much for making these awesome tools!
Edit: Fixed typo
I want to thank the Orion team for making this a feature of Orion in one of the latest updates. It really means a lot to see how you are making improvements based on user feedback. Thank you again and keep up the good work!!
