Safari extensions are not supported on Orion and will not be.

MarcAbrams You probably want this as a native feature in settings, not an extension. Lets see if this gets upvotes.

Vlad changed the title to Show native video control option in settings .

Vlad thanks. And you are right about wanting it as a native browser option!

Safari's default video player is simple and always works. I have an extension called Vinegar which forces youtube into using Safari's default player as well. It would be great if Orion had this built in. A standard video player would greatly increase the usability of the web.

It doesn't have to be safari/apple's video player. Could be stylized to fit in with Orion but having it standard for all html5 video would be great.

I think this is a good idea because I havent been able to find any extension that replaces all embedded videos with the default html5 video player for chromium-like browsers

Merged 3 posts from Default to Apple HTML5 Video Player.

Vlad something like remove custom video players or use default html5 video player everywhere. Maybe this can also exist under compatibility settings to be able to disable it on breaking sites.

Ok I think we can have this as a global website setting.

It would be called "Video Player" and have two options "Site default" or "Native HTML5"

In website settings we can have this below Auto play option.

Any update on the status? This would resolve a few audio and video issues that others are reporting with Youtube, too

I am also worried a bit about discoverability of this feature for newbies. Is this a power user feature only?

Vlad I think it may be fine as a starting point to be in settings?

Another option that I kind of prefer is having it as a option under the right click menu for a video. Usually thats how you access PiP so theres a lot of foot traffic in that flow so many user will be curious if they see a "switch to native player" option. It also means that any sites where the native video player breaks, users can easily switch back to the site default player.

Comment to say this should also be flagged for Orion mobile. I use Vinegar on iOS safari to make YouTube tolerable and with PiP.

I keep trying Orion (or any other browser) and then find myself missing Vinegar every time I use YouTube. Having the ability to use the native player is a great feature that Orion would really benefit from.
