Vlad Odd. My first screenshot was in Orion, while the second was in Safari.

Maybe it’s something local. I’ll report back if I see it again somewhere else.

I also see weird characters elsewhere on the web. See under the "6" in this review on The Verge:

These issues do not occur in Safari.

Vlad Makes sense!

I've just disabled all of my four extensions in Orion, quit and relaunched the app, and I'm still seeing it. So it wasn't:

1Password
Honey
Clip to DEVONthink (doesn't work anyway, far as I can tell)
Zotero (doesn't work anyway, far as I can tell)

It does seem to have something to do with font-weight. If I inspect the elements where this is happening, they all seem to be using font-weight: 500. If I switch the value to 300, for instance, the problem goes away:

ryanjamurphy Nice find. If it was strictly about how Orion/WebKit renders it I would have the same problem so something else is in play here.

Vlad No luck. Just cleared all browser data for all time, then quit and relaunched. Still seeing the weird characters on xkcd.com and theverge.com.

Steps to reproduce:
Over the past week or so, many sites have started to display characters like this (this is moz.com).

I’ve tried enabling compatibility mode, clearing caches and Safari displays the sites normally.

Expected behavior:
Normal text render

Cannot reproduce, even with web fonts disabled.

Yes, a weird one – doesn’t happen on my laptop.

Here’s another site that shows similar behaviour:

Both sites show console errors, but no errors that appear on both sites and they’re largely content blocking.

On both sites, if I change the font-weight property in the inspector, the normal text displays. I wonder if there’s something in that?

@ryanjamurphy @combofumes these issues seem similar so I merged. Adjusting font-weight seems to fix both.

Since nobody else can reproduce it is up to you to figure out what makes you so special ! (System setting/Orion setting/something else)... Help us help you!
