I appreciate that we can add custom search engines, but it'd be great if we could add custom DuckDuckGo-style !bang searches. Of course, using a prefix like DDG does may cause complications. Instead, how about just adding an optional keyword field in the manage search engines dialog. When the user types the keyword in the address bar, there can be a prompt to hit tab to switch to searching with the search engine represented to the keyword instead of the default search engine.

For example, I work with a JW Player's media hosting service quite a bit. A common task is to look up a video by its unique ID in the JW Dashboard. It requires a log in and would include the account number I use with them. The configuration could look something like this:

Name: JW Dashboard
Search URL template: https://dashboard.jwplayer.com/p/<account_ID>/media/%s
Suggestion URL template: <blank>
Keyword: jwd

And then in use it'd look like

jwd <tab> 1234abcd <enter>

which would take me to

        Vlad I think a good idea would be allowing to add an invocation keyword while creating the bookmark. This would make it much more visible.
        Currently, only the name and the location can be edited while creating a bookmark

            Vlad This is a feature in Safari and Firefox plus Chrome. You simply need to type the first few letters of a websit from the history menu in order to bring up a history entry o fit's %s input field menu without actually needing ot bring up that website( load it).

                donut Safari and Firefox already have this. I believe that I have another post that suggests the exact same thing as this but it did not receive any attention because the exact terminology I used although exact and correct did not reflect popularity nor any attention.

                    Fortrikka Yeah, Chrome has this as well. In Safari, the its automatic detection of search pages is mixed. I very rarely use it. Plus it's difficult to access and cannot be customized. It definitely doesn't work for single-page JavaScript apps.

                    Shadowknight I feel like this feature makes more sense living under the search engines list since that's what It's about. But glad it exists at all. Definitely should be discoverable beyond the extremely rare case a user wants to edit a bookmark.

                        The more complex the ask is, the less likely it will get developed any time soon.

                        Starting with existing Orion functionality, what is the minimum ask here?

                            Vlad The minimum ask is that the search keyword and URL to be bookmarked are exposed in the "Add this page to..." (add bookmark) dialog, perhaps initially hidden under a "More Options" or "Search Options" button that reveals these fields when clicked.

                            An alternative minimum ask is that a keyword field is added to the search engines add/edit dialog [Preferences > Search > Manage > +]. I suspect that's where people who have used these features before in other browsers are most likely to look for them.

Can I ask you to create two cards with these concrete asks (we can do both), and I will close this one (we always prefer detailed implementation suggestion vs a broad/general description like the card originally has).
