adorabilis I use VB-Cable. I tried using Loopback and it did work but I'm not really the type of person to pay for something when something else is already doing it for free.
Virtual Microphone not being detected
- Edited
While we wait for the bug report to be reviewed, does BlackHole meet your requirement? https://github.com/ExistentialAudio/BlackHole

Noxlite Both Orio and Safari use WebKit which is probably the reason for your bug. You can post webkit bugs here https://webkit.org/reporting-bugs/
adorabilis Nope, same behavior with BlackHole.
Steps to reproduce:
I have the Shure MV7 and I can't get it to show up in Orion. Tried several virtual mics (Blackhole, Loopback) and none of those appear either. These microphones do all appear in Safari, so it does not appear to be a WebKit issue. Screenshots from Safari showing 4 audio input devices (including the Shure) and from Orion showing only 3 attatched.
Expected behavior:
I want to be able to use my mic so I can switch over to Orion full-time.
Orion, OS version; hardware type:
Orion 0.99.121.1-beta
macOS Ventura 13.0 build 22A380 (also tried Monterey with no success)
Macbook Pro M1 Max

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for in terms of repro steps. For the Shure, just plug in the mic and observe that Orion doesn't recognize it. Blackhole and Loopback are very easy to install and test with too. Create a virtual mic and observe that Orion doesn't see it while Safari does.

Any video calling service (ex: Google Meet) will reproduce it. https://webcammictest.com/check-mic.html is another easy way.
You can also install blackhole or loopback. Blackhole is free on github. Loopback has a free trial.

Orion doesn’t expose the full list of audio input devices. Virtual microphones are missing. To reproduce:
- Install Loopback from rogueamoeba.com/loopback/.
- Create a new virtual device in Loopback (by clicking the button in the lower left corner of the main UI).
- Go to System Settings > Sound and note that the new virtual device is in the Input list.
- Navigate to (e.g. Discord) in Orion and open the voice settings.
- Note that the new virtual device is missing in Orion.

I am testing Orion again and am having this exact issue with my RODE microphone. It just doesn't show up in the devices with Google Meet, Nextcloud Talk or any website that allows me to use the microphone.
This bug is still present in Orion Version 0.99.125-rc (WebKit 616.1.22). It makes voice/video calling websites unusable for people with a custom microphone setup (virtual microphones are missing). For example, Discord voice settings page is laggy and beachballs in Orion. No other browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chromium) I tested have this problem.

adorabilis Unfortunately number of such users is relatively small as seen by upvotes here, and fixing this probably requires going into the depths of WebKit which is the reason this hasn't moved much.
Consider merging this post reporting the same issue and its upvotes https://orionfeedback.org/d/1151-virtual-microphone-not-being-detected/9.
In that post, I mentioned I did not have problems with virtual microphones. A regression must have happened in the following months with newer builds. I can’t pin down which version exactly. Currently, Orion is the only browser I have tried on macOS that has issues with virtual microphones. Safari works just fine.
