    • Dustin That is not a vast majority of Linux desktop users anymore. KDE has made a big comeback since SteamOS. It is the most common desktop on Arch, it has recently been brought to the same level on Fedora due to popularity, and has long been a popular choice on others. The packages we maintain show this with the versions that are pulled. GTK may still be a higher percentage, but it is not a good idea for a very sizable group. To top it off it still does not look native on GTK2/3, just better than it did.

      • hawdini Yep, libadwaita only looks good on Gnome it looks bad on just about everything else and there are a ton of users not using Gnome and many of those will not use apps that have libadwaita. This is limiting the potential reach of Orion on Linux. Native GTK will look decent on all desktop environments and window managers.

        • Vlad Libadwaita is not a native look on anything but Gnome. GTK by itself works fine across the different environments. Libadwaita just about ruins any chance of native look outside of Gnome. We have dealt with this on many dev projects.

        • Looking forward to testing it. My business already tests software for our clients. This is actually one I will be excited to test.

          Thanks for the update @Vlad

          • DankeBrutus Agree, I think it is the best choice. The Gnome apps in general are fine it is more the libadwaita that causes some issues. I have to deal on the dev side with it from time to time.

          • While I agree that since Gnome Web is likely the best base, it is essential to ensure that it works and looks good across other desktop environments. It is unfortunately one thing that libadwaita is not great at. Gnome Web does a solid job of this, but it is not true of all GTK/Gnome apps that use libadwaita, especially when used on QT based DEs like KDE, which like Gnome is a huge user base.

            • Dustin GTK I have no problem with, libadwaita causes more problems with styling on other DEs. GTK itself is not the issue. It is why I had the caveat that WebKit is more important because it already exists within Linux and to simply minimize the use of libadwaita specifically vs GTK. GTK is more required. Would be better if it was neither, but that would cost too much development time to re-create the client-side.

            • KDE is preferred, but WebKit is more important and currently that is in the Epiphany web browser. Just minimize the use of libadwaita, and you can make it more well-rounded across platforms or go the path like other browsers that do no rely too much on GTK or QT.

              • laiz That makes me very happy.

                • Vlad Unfortunately that is what I figured. I can always hope, though.

I will tell you this, if you can get closer to the number you will need, you can count me in to cover $400.

                  Thanks for the reply

                  • Vlad Any news on this? Leaning one way or the other?
