In chrome, the omnibar results remain open if results are opened in a new tab (with cmd + return) which allows users to check out different results at once

@Vlad old issue that might not be too hard to implement

eirk I believe Orion behaves same as Safari ?

        • eirk replied to this.

Vlad Yes, but the behavior of chrome makes much more sense. if you're cmd-entering a search when in the address bar, you likely want to keep the content in the address bar, as what chrome does

          • Vlad replied to this.

eirk There is a balance between utility and nativeness. In general we do not like creating controls that behave differently than the rest of the system.

Vlad The only "rest of the system" is in fact only Safari, and no other mac app has even a "cmd-enter search in a new tab" feature. The feature in Safari just makes less sense in general (to me).
Chromium browsers support this, but firefox just does not have a "cmd-enter to search in a new tab" feature to begin with

I understand that you are striving for a balance between utility and nativeness but in this case, I think that this feature adds a ton of utility (for me, at least) to Orion without compromising on nativeness. Safari (and Firefox) users won't be confused as they can continue to use Orion just like they used their old browser and people coming from Chrome can also use their browser just like they used to – nobody gets confused and everyone can be happy.

Also, as @eirk pointed out, it's just Safari that doesn't have this feature so I don't see how this compromises nativeness either. If "Safari doesn't have this feature so we can't add it to Orion" is the argument here, then I don't see the point of Orion.

And since this has already been added (and later removed), this should be an easy fix.

I really hope that this gets added to Orion again.
