Heya!
Just discovered Orion, and the one thing that's stopping me from making the switch to at least try it for a while is the lack of tinted/colored windows. I use different colored Chrome profiles to designate different areas of my work (this isn't great due to profiles not sharing the same account, extensions, bookmarks, etc, but it does the job). I see the topic of setting the theme color PWA-style has come up before (https://orionfeedback.org/d/505-colored-tab-chrome) (and I'm in full support of adding that as an option).
Chrome nor Safari allows setting/over-riding that color manually for the whole window via a user preference, which would be a phenomenal feature for Orion. Not suggesting a theme marketplace or anything like that, simply a SwiftUI color picker!
Thanks!

so this is more of (per-profile) "theming" support?
eirk Perhaps 'user preference' was a misleading phrase. Not per-profile nor per-user, but only per window! So hopefully less state to manage...
Also I'm not sure where this color picker would live, as the preferences view implies a per-app setting.... A fourth 'traffic light' icon that's actually a clickable color picker would be tremendous But perhaps that's too subjective. Just throwing it out there!
Any ideas?
i dont have any super great ideas, but a fourth traffic light is definitely too obtrusive.
Recently as I have been beginning to use Safari 15 once again (Due to it being more stable now) I am noticing that Orion Looks exactly like Safari 15 with the Colored Chrome disabled, this in turn makes it hard to tell Orion from Safari in Mission Control, so in order to combat this I think a dark red theme is in order, why dark red? Well see dark red is the color of the Orion Nebula and Orion is named after the Orion Nebula so the theme only makes sense, and it also gives Orion it's own visual image making it stand out, of course this could be an option setting but it would be nice.
Which one is Orion? I do not know? (Spoiler: Safari is the Bottom and Orion is the Bottom, how do I know? Well Orion's Omni-box is Grey, and Safari's is white, so I can reasonably conclude that Orion is the top one and Safari is the Bottom one... But TBH that is a small detail that few would know to look for, lol)
FluffyKitty776 I am not aware of such things as themes for macOS native apps. The chrome has color specified by the OS. Do you have any any Apple apps in mind - sharing an example will be useful.
We take Orion looking exactly as Safari as a compliment - we are following the OS manufacturer's reference browser specification.
Well, as far as Apple made apps there are none in the current system, but some notable applications that include theming on the native chrome can include Typora and Firefox, I do know that several applications used to have more colored themes to match the purpose, I guess a lot of that was removed, last I remember notes had a yellow theme and I guess it is white now, huh
FluffyKitty776 Even Typora just changes the color of the webview it uses, not the app chrome.
Firefox - It is nowhere near being a macOS native app.
When you want to do things by the book, certain limitation apply.
I found a screenshot of a macOS application that has colored Chrome, I knew it was a thing in native applications, I remember several more but I can't find it... But it is a thing.
FluffyKitty776 What apps are these?
Vlad This is The Address Book and Notes app, the way I remeber it.
FluffyKitty776 How do you get Notes app to change chrome like that?
Vlad oh, it is not like that anymore, it was like that in MacOS Lion, and not any more, sorry, I just prefer the style of Lion.
We are making progress here.
(This feature might already be implemented as part of the "Profiles like Chromium browsers" thread, but I cannot find out how to access the setting.)
Is it possible to change the color of the toolbar (top bar that includes tab, search bar, and toolbar buttons) to a custom accent color in order to more easily distinguish between profiles? The icon to the left of the search bar is great, but having the option to color the entire toolbar would be even better.
Maybe further down the line, Orion can add support for/implement custom user-submitted themes like Chrome and Firefox have, but that's a discussion for another day.
