When highlighting some text on a webpage in Google Chrome, it's possible to right click on it and click "Copy Link to Highlight", to copy the current page URL with some extra query info that makes the page jump to and display the currently highlighted part. This is super helpful for bringing someone's attention to part of a webpage that isn't already easily linkable to - especially a key section of an explanation/analysis.

Example (and feature reference) here:
https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/10256233?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop#:~:text=To%20create%20a,or%20message%20thread.

Format:
<standard_url>#:~:text=sanitised_start[,sanitised_end]

Orion seems to currently support viewing these links, but does not seem to have a convenient option for creating them, and once you go to one it does not then allow un-highlighting the text (although this is a secondary request - making the links is the priority).

    Vlad Here:

As mentioned - Orion seems to already support the actual viewing of those links (so you can likely see the current result in your own Orion window with the link I provided originally) - I'm just asking for the option to conveniently create them :-)

I seem to have found at least one case where Orion does not successfully highlight the expected text but Chrome does:

      https://docs.bluerobotics.com/ardusub-zola/software/autopilot/ArduSub-4.1/developers/mavlink-messages/#:~:text=MAVLink%20Dialect-,ADSB_VEHICLE,-GCS_MAVLink/GCS_Common.cpp

(Orion just goes to the start of the page, and doesn't highlight anything)

That said, I expect Orion's existing highlight+jump URL functionality is automatically available via WebKit, and that example also fails on Safari, so presumably the issue there is with the underlying WebKit implementation rather than an issue with Orion itself. Not sure if that kind of thing is best reported to Apple as a bug, and/or worked around in Orion in the meantime.

Merged 1 post from Copy link to selected text.

          Brief Summary
Chrome has a useful feature where you can hold Option to select anchor text from a link. It would be great if Orion had this feature as well.

To try it out in Chrome, go to any webpage with a link and hold Option while hovering over the link, and select some part of the link text.

Safari since its version 16.1 (under Ventura), Webkit and therefore Orion support a large part of the "text fragments" function on display.

Unfortunately there is indeed no possibility of creating these same "text fragments" with browsers based on webkit, unlike browsers under Chromium, which offer the "copy link to highlight" function.

Adding this functionality in Orion would indeed be a good thing.
