It would be really nice if tabs can auto suspend after a certain amount of time. Maybe have 5min, 10min, 15min, etc or a custom time setting. Tabs playing audio or video won't auto suspend of course. It's a small suggestion but extremely convenient 👍

Also thank you all for making such a great browser. We appreciate it 😀

Hello! I just wanted to add that this is the sole reason I'm checking out Orion. I have a lot of tabs open in Safari, and I use a couple of tab groups. This eventually results in absolutely epic amounts of memory used by all my tabs, because Safari doesn't purge them out of memory. Even inactive groups stay in memory. So, I'm restarting Safari quite often because of this, which is just crazy.

Suspending tabs I haven't touched in a while, including freeing up memory is absolutely essential for me. But I gotta say Orion is looking very very nice in every other way too, I'll keep testing it 👍

    Cheers!

Stakker Orion already has the feature to

      a) manually suspend tabs
      b) automatically suspend tabs via Low Power Mode

      what is exactly the ask?

Sorry, I wasn't being very clear: I'm not asking for anything, I was trying to say how happy I am Orion has this feature :-) I was looking for a solution for the Safari memory issue and found Orion, which is EXACTLY what I want.

There are other browsers that solve this issue, but they have other issues (not as Maclike, spy on you and call home, don't use Webkit). Omega is very Mac/Safarilike, which is great, but also the UI is slightly more flexible.

So, yeah just saying thanks and keep it up :-) Switching away from Safari takes some effort because it's so tightly integrated with Apple systems, but I'll try.

        Cheers!

Allowing the user to set the the "inactivity time" in settings or when enabling Lower Power Mode would be a nice addition. Currently it defaults to suspending tabs after 5 minutes of inactivity.

This could either be a input field which defaults 5 (min) or have a drop down with some options. For example:

            • 5 minutes
            • 15 minutes
            • 30 minutes
            • 1 hour
            • 3 hours

Yep we have something like planned.

In addition to what Boedy wrote, some other settings like a simple whitelisting of tabs which should never get suspended and some basic conditions like tabs playing audio or tabs with unsaved form won't get suspended would be nice.

Edit: and maybe move these settings into the actual setting window under Tabs or Browsing.
