Came here to say that I've tried to use Orion on iOS multiple times (for first-class Kagi support) and every time I try it, the singular reason I switch back to Safari is the Vinegar extension. It might seem like a trivial feature, but forcing the native player on any sites that try to give me their crappy video "experiences" is so valuable to me that I will choose a Safari solely over that feature, even if Kagi is better in every other way.

Sadly, I have not been able to find a Vinegar equivalent for chromium-based browsers. It would be fantastic if Kagi could provide this feature out of the box. My hot take is that I don't even think it should be a power-user feature but rather the default experience (opt-out in settings). Give websites and companies an inch and they take a mile - there is a native video component for a reason, it offers best-in-class (and predictable) support for features. Imagine if every website tried to make their own text box component instead of using the native one, what a nightmare. Skip the ads, skip the crappy JS video player.

If Orion can implement this (or enable Safari extension support) I will immediately switch over.

I just wanted to add, that vinegar is also the sole thing, which Iโ€™m currently missing from mobile Safari. Vinegar was also the reason for me to check how to add Safari extensions into Orion.

Iโ€™m glad that the implementation is planned and looking forward to it!

If a vinegar equivalent was implemented in Orion, I would switch over in an instant. Huge fan of y'alls progress so far, keep up the good work!

      Was this implemented in 127?

      If so, where is it?

        Vlad Thanks!

Is there a new date or version number for its implementation?

We definitely need this feature ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

I would like an option to force videos to play in the native iOS/macOS media player. Many websites have media players that lack basic features such as scrubbing and skipping forward/backwards. It is also nice to have a consistent media player experience across websites.

The extension StopTheMadness Pro for Safari offers this feature

Merged 2 posts from Option to force websites to play videos in native player.

Is there any update on the release of this?

Love my Kagi family membership! Lack of HTML5 video player for YouTube in particular is keeping me from Orion. Super excited to see this! Is there an update on timeframe? Or has there not been an RC since Dec 2?

In the meantime until it lands in RC, the "extract" (no ad blocking) variant of vinegar works on Orion desktop if you load the Safari extension.

Perhaps it could be ready at the 5 year anniversary of this original request. Iโ€™m now a paid subscriber to Kagi and sure would like to see this with Orion browser.

gp That's super helpful. Thanks! I'm using Vinegar Extract with uBlock Origin now.

I hadn't tried using any Safari extensions. It was intuitive-ish, but for anyone else who needs some extra help:

Settings > Advanced > Manage Extensions

                    Then:

Add Extension > Install from Diskโ€ฆ

                    And choose the Vinegar.app

UPDATE: It's not as good as Vinegar in Safari, which just works. In Orion with Vinegar Extract and uBlock Origin, there is a long delay before a YouTube video will play. It's not really a workable solution for me. Back to Safari until this is added I guess.
