  • I need to use a combination of blockers to deal with Youtube's exponential growth in AI slop. I used to be able to use Origin's element picker in Orion but recently it has stopped working. Strangely, it does work on other sites. I've checked the obvious things I can think of:

    • uBlock Origin is enabled in Orion
    • Problem persists after disabling other extensions
    • Uninstalling/reinstalling uBlock Origin and filters doesn't solve it
    • Doesn't seem to be tied to filter list subscriptions
    • Frankly don't remember if it is tied to the recent Orion update

Edit: I am also a Kagi.com subscriber and it doesn't work there, either.

On Youtube: Expect the uBlock Origin element picker to appear either with the context menu or from the eyedropper icon in the extension button. Not possible to select and block elements with the boxed highlights method.

The boxes do appear on other sites, though.

    • I have this issue with BlockTube as well but am using YTBlock to compensate.

      • I updated today to:
        Version 0.99.130.1-beta (WebKit 621.1.2.111.4)
        Build date Dec 19 2024
MacBook Pro (macOS Sequoia 15.2 build 24C101)

        System: Macbook Pro M3, 36GB Sequoia 15.2

My login to HackerNews (news.ycombinator.com) stopped working and I have to enter credentials every time. Other saved logins don't seem to be affected. I have the option to use Orion's Keychain checked.

        I tried:

        • Deleting the password entry from the Orion password manager and logging in again after restarting the browser
-- Did not get the save credentials option and the credentials did not save
        • Deleting and manually entering credentials in the Orion password manager and restarting
-- Still had to enter the credentials
        • Above but explicitly deleting cache/cookies/history/etc.
-- Still does not remember the saved credentials or prompt to save once entered
        • Above in Compatibility mode
          -- Did not fix

I am enclosing a screenshot of the login page. Note that the key icon appears in the Create Account block and not in the Login block. I wonder if this is a sign of the underlying problem.

Is there a way to force the prompt to save the credentials?

Until the update, I got a prompt to use a saved password in the Login field and could authenticate with a click.

        • Thanks for the crosscheck. Sites are still getting through for me. Not a fatal issue so I can live with/work around it.

          • I have a hosts file on my Mac to block some websites from loading. I notice that those sites will load in Orion anyway. They are blocked on Firefox but appear with Safari. I don't see any settings in Orion that might affect this behavior. Compatibility mode doesn't change the result. Does Orion use the hosts file?

            Thanks,

When a site in the hosts file is contacted, I would like Orion to block it.

            • The new update to Ver 0.99.129-beta has resolved this problem. Thank you.

            • laiz Thank you for the timely help, I appreciate it.

I thought I'd check here before reporting through the Crash Reporter. I tried now to report it formally but although I get the crash, I no longer get the Apple prompt nor do I get the Crash Reporter when I reopen Orion! I'll keep trying different things and if/when the Crash Reporter comes back I will submit details.

              • laiz I created a New Profile (Test Profile) and set it up to open in Start Page and new tabs in Empty Page. I did not install extensions in this profile. Exited Orion, started it, went to File -> Profiles and selected the Test Profile. Problem remains: I can click around the Start Page but when I open the new tab in the Empty Page and click on it, I get the crash.

                • laiz Let me see if this reduced size version will upload... The first bit is me clicking around the Start Page (ok) then opening up a new tab to an Empty Page, clicking in it, and getting the crash.

Edit: I use the default tab settings which I think is horizontal (new tabs appear to the right of prior tabs)

                  • laiz I tried uploading a .mov file via the icon with an up arrow but got an error message. What's the correct way to upload a video? (I checked the main forum page for instructions but didn't find any)

                    • I am running Orion Version 0.99.128.2.1-beta (WebKit 619.1.11.111.2), Build date Aug 3 2024, on a
MacBook Pro (macOS Sonoma 14.7 build 23H124)

It has worked fine until yesterday. I have it configured to startup in a new window on an Empty Page (dropdown in Settigns) and also start new tabs in an Empty Page. Now, when I start and click on the Empty Page, Orion crashes and I get the option to report it to Apple. Restarting brings up the crash reporter. Not sure how to insert the crash log but can do so if instructed how.

If I click on a bookmark, enter a URL, etc. I can use the browser. If I set the startup page to Favorites, I can click on the page without a crash. But, I would prefer to start on an Empty Page as I did before yesterday.

I tried resetting Orion but the problem remains. I haven't changed anything with extensions and I have not installed any new software on the Macbook. It just started happening all of a sudden.

Orion didn't crash when clicking on an Empty Page before. Would like that capability back.
