Given that Apple has removed the Touch Bar from their laptops (it only remains available on the previous-generation 13" MacBook Pro that's still hanging around) I think it's safe to conclude it is a dead-end feature so given Orion's limited development resources I don't think investing any further time into Touch Bar functionality is worthwhile.

ImBIOS and anyone else looking to improve the Orion Touch Bar experience I would suggest you investigate BetterTouchTool which offers extensive system-wide and per-app Touch Bar customisation, where you could e.g. create a custom Touch Bar button to run the AppleScript set volume input volume 0 which should mute your microphone in reference to the request at https://orionfeedback.org/d/5597-mute-microphone, or open the macOS inbuilt Script Editor app, select Window → Library, add Orion to the Library list and double click it to view the various AppleScript commands & variables available to allow building Orion-specific scripts & advanced functionality.

      adamaveray Apple is still selling 13" M2 MBP with Touch Bar. And it will be supported for another 4+ years. So I don't think you could call this feature "dead-end". A lot of people still use Touch Bar Macboocs and even buy new ones. This is a feature that should be in a browser by default.

          yeah, I dont use touchbar, nor would I ever buy a computer with. But I think the argumentation is weak. lets assume they didnt sell any computers with touchbar anymore, then with that logic you could also argue Apple doesnt sell computers with Monterey or any older systems so they are "dead-end" so no need to support it.

          Absolutely if the demand and user base is there then it would be good for Orion to improve Touch Bar usability, especially some of the easier wins like additional buttons.

          In many threads including this one the developers mention how limited their resources are so have to be selective about what to implement, so if it's between developing something that will benefit all users vs something that will benefit an ever-shrinking percentage then I would prioritise the former vs things like replicating Safari's complex custom tab switcher – I'm not aware of a single new Touch Bar feature announced in upcoming Sonoma, nor anything notable in Ventura or Monterey, so unfortunately not even Apple seem to be able to invest development resources into it anymore.

          In the mean time regardless of whether the Orion team can add anything new there are great third-party tools available that allow adding a range extra functionality to the Touch Bar when using Orion!

            yes, deffintily resources should be alocated the right places. which the voting system is suppose to help with getting an idea of where. Right now this issue is fairly high on most voted issues, so there does seems to be an interest. perhaps someone even donated money directly at this issue, idk.

            So i dont think its really up to us to justify not alocating resources at this, even tho I personally dont care about touchbar or think it has a future in the long run, I think its our job to point at where we think they should be allocated, by voting or donating

            Also something that I think is important to point out here is, that the ask isnt asking for extra functionality beyond what the reference browser Safari has, or chrome for that matter.

            Its only asking to match that. so it isnt going "beyond" IMO

              For further context we use a simple product management formula for prioritization.

              popularity (upvotes) X percentage of affected members in the community / difficulty

              If you would score these on a scale of 1 to 10 for this feature it would roughly translate to

              8 x 4 / 7 = 4.5
              8 - pretty high up on the list of upvotes
              4 - 40%? of users have touchbar
              7 - not a trivial feature

              (this is the subjective part determined by me mostly)

              Since max is 100 (10x10/1) you can see how this still remains a low priority.

              Most things we do regularly are in the 10-20 range (a bug that is easy to fix and affects everyone would be 1 x 10 / 1 = 10 which is why you see many of them go through in releases). Then once in a while we allocate time to push things that are just popular, but so far there were always more important things to push.

                  I'd also like to see a PiP button overlay on the actual video too

                  Firefox has this feature built-in. Not sure about Chrome etc

                          This would entail adding a feature similar to Safari's or even Chrome's, allowing owners of touchbar macs to have greater productivity.

                          I want to have touchbar support for older macs. I would say that yall don't really care for older machines, but you have a browser available all the way back to Catalina. It, while being a minor feature, would help improve productivity. Ideally it would be a tab switcher, but it could also be like what Chrome and Firefox have.

                              im trying to switch from chrome to this but not having touchbar controls is a huge dealbreaker, i would really love if they were implemented, even just a back/forward/refresh button and a search field

                                • for this, please just add the built-in touchbar browser controls from Safari, I don't think there needs to be anything different or more features you guys need to add to this. It's a small attention to detail that will make the experience on touchbar macbooks feel so much more alive and finished. the touchbar was alive for 7 years and apple sold it with 2 generations of apple sillicon. they are still not a rare thing and it isn't pointless at all to put in the effort to support them.
