On macOS, to open the Passwords section of Orion (Tools > Passwords, or ⇧⌘O), either the password or Touch ID must be entered. In the current design of this screen, the latter is an unnecessary extra click.

Touch ID could already be actively waiting for the fingerprint (like it does for autofill on websites). In fact, the GUI suggests as if this were already the case, since the pink fingerprint icon is a system-wide metaphor for: "Touch ID is listening".

As soon as the Passwords window appears on-screen (and has focus), Touch ID (if applicable) should already be active and waiting for input. This would be faster, more convenient, and remove the need for the dedicated "Unlock with Touch ID" button.

This is analogous to this feedback, where the same was suggested for autofill on websites. It got succesfully implemented last September.

Below is the current Passwords lock screen design in Orion:

The view for a locked note in Notes.app is almost identical to Orion. But notice here's no dedicated button for Touch ID – it is already listening.

And here is the standard system prompt for Touch ID (also partially used in Orion). It is slightly less fortunate in the sense that using the password in turn takes an extra click. But nevertheless, Touch ID is already active as soon as this pop-up appears.

I love that in Orion, the password field is already in focus when the locked screen appears. That should definitely stay. But to my knowledge, there's nothing stopping Touch ID from actively scanning at the same time (as of macOS Sonoma anyway).

I vaguely remember this is not possible due to Apple restrictions, @dino ?

Vlad now we can do that on macOS 12+, as there's a new API available (like we did for auto filling passwords)
