I experience the same issue and can reproduce this by:

  1. Create a new profile
  2. Pin at least 4 tabs
  3. Close the window/profile
  4. File > Profiles > Open profile

@Vlad The problem is not solved completely.
I tried to reproduce this again, and for a clean profile, the problem is solved.

But the profile that is synched still doesn't maintain the right order for pinned tabs after a restart.
It might have something to do with how data is synched?

I would be willing to test this more by starting over completely by deleting my CloudKit sync data for Orion RC but I have no idea how to do that, instructions are welcome.

Hi @Vlad I'm sorry to report that in Version 0.99.126.4.1.4-rc (WebKit 619.1.1) the issue still occurs in the default synching profile with multiple tab groups. Reordering the pinned tabs to the right order and restarting the browser still mixes up the order of the pinned tabs.

It's a persistent one, still jumbled pinned tabs in the default synched profile in
        Version 0.99.126.4.1.5-rc (WebKit 619.1.1)
Build date Jan 31 2024 on a MacBook Pro (macOS Sonoma 14.2.1 build 23C71)

Update: I just deleted Orion RC and Orion with AppDelete to make sure everything was gone and reinstalled them after a reboot. This didn't solve the problem. I'd hoped it would also delete the CloudKit data so that I could test with a fully clean synching profile. If you @Vlad Or someone else knows how to delete all CloudKit data for Orion RC on macOS 14.2.1 I will test if the order of pinned tabs stays proper in a really clean setup.

Otherwise, maybe check if the pinned tabs order is stored together with the pinned tabs data in CloudKit?

          I tested some more

          • Deleted all Orion apps on all my Apple devices
          • Deleted Orion iCloud data from all devices (via the explanation in this article).
          • Rebooted the platforms
          • Reinstalled Orion on macOS
          • Verified that no Windows/tab groups were reintroduced by being synched from iCloud.
          • Created three new windows with various pinned tabs.

After a few restarts of Orion all pinned tabs were mixed up again. Wanted to do this test for a while but didn't know how to start from scratch. So it's probably not due to corrupt iCloud data that pinned tabs get jumbled.

I can confirm that I still have this issue

              Just reporting back

              Version 0.99.126.4.1.6-rc (WebKit 619.1.1)
              Build date Feb 8 2024
MacBook Pro (macOS Sonoma 14.2.1 build 23C71)

Still has this issue. Thanks for loking into this.

Hi @vlad, at first it seemed to be fixed, did a few restarts (three or so) and everything stayed in order in
                Version 0.99.126.4.1.7-rc (WebKit 619.1.1)
                Build date Feb 20 2024
But after a few more restarts though they got mixed up again.
Maybe @whitemamba and @shadowhand can confirm too.

Yeah I've seen the order of regular tabs getting mexed up on restart. We will investigate further

                    6 days later

@janpeeters please try with latest RC 126.4.1.8 and let us know if that fixes the issue

Hi @dino it is a lot more stable. But if I give it a real stress test by activating all inactive tabs in three tab groups and then closing the browser and reopening it and doing it again and again, you'll see at the end of the video that the first two pinned tabs in the first two tab groups get switched.
If you watch from 1:11 you save yourself some time, but before that time I'm doing as described and all tabs stay in their right place. Hopefully you can hunt down the last glitch and thanks for the work so far!

                      @dino I just tested

                      Version 0.99.126.4.1.9-rc (WebKit 619.1.1)
Build date Mar 7 2024 on
MacBook Pro (macOS Sonoma 14.2.1 build 23C71)

And the shuffling still occurs after a few restarts.

can also confirm: I have 4 pin tabs. On every launch of orion, these tabs appear in a random order. I can do all the reordering I wish, upon quit+reopen orion, the order is not retained.
                      Version 0.99.126.4.1-beta (WebKit 618.1.2)
                      Build date Dec 14 2023
Mac Studio (macOS Sonoma 14.3.1 build 23D60)

Also -> another bug I just noticed: my machine is a macbook pro 14" M3 MAX, not a Mac Studio !
