Steps to reproduce:
After a period of time using Orion RC, accessing the menu bar will have a considerable delay, sometimes freezing the browser. It's hard to know what menu item in particular causes this but I suspect history.

Checking Activity Monitor while the browser is frozen will show the spindump service using up a lot of CPU

This usually happens once per session. If I experience the glitch/freeze and then try to record it afterwards, the menu bar is completely responsive.

This is currently happening on:
Version 0.99.125.5-rc (WebKit 617.1.6)
Build date Oct 3 2023
MacBook Air (macOS Sonoma 14.1 beta build 23B5056e)

The only extension is Bitwarden.

But this is a long standing glitch I have noticed. I cannot reproduce it on a clean testing profile but I suspect because there's no substantial browsing history.

I will attempt to record it at some point if I can get it to happen on demand.

Dustin It does not tell us much, but it is a start. Hopefully more people can pile on with more evidence/steps leading up to this.

When this happens next time, launch activity monitor, find OrionRC main thread process and 'profile process' several times, and attach the results here.

I'll try my best to make it happen.

To clarify: Under Activity Monitor, do I select Orion RC and then Sample Process?

I don't have any option to Profile Process

Hi team, this happens everytime I open the latest RC within 30s. It has become unusable and I've reverted 0.99.125-beta. I didn't have any trouble before.

I've attached some process samples. Hopefully it is helpful.

        sample-1.txt
        2MB
        sample-3.txt
        246kB
        sample-2.txt
        2MB

I discovered and resolved the cause of my issue, not sure if related to OP. This morning I did the following:

        1. Updated to the latest version RC (0.99.125.6-rc). Issue persisted.
        2. I tried disabling all extensions and closing all open tabs, closed RC and re-opened. Issue persisted.
        3. I reviewed the process samples I submitted last week and noticed a lot of calls to SQLite. This prompted me to think about how your team might be using that DB, which led me to the History.
        4. In the days before Orion RC become unusable, AWS Console had written about 8,000 items to the history. I deleted these and performance was restored.

Thanks for making a great browser!

I have a similar-sounding situation. Is/was your freeze accompanied by distinctively janky rolling beachball cursor? In my case this takes the entire system down, so there seems to be no way to dump anything and there’s no reliable repro steps. I wonder if it has to do with RAM, I only have 16 GB and perhaps some Orion-swap interaction kills the system—how much RAM do you have?

This is related to an older issue, but newer.

            Steps to reproduce:

            1. (presumably) Have a large history (mine in ~/Library/Application Support/Orion/Defaults/history is 38 MB)
            2. Go to Orion
            3. Navigate to the menu bar
            4. Hover over the items (previewing the actions) and reach the history tab, which will be noticeably slower than the rest (mine felt like 500/600 ms).

This is particularly noticeable when using Help > Search, which felt like it had a 1-2 second initial delay.

            Expected behavior:
I expect hovering over history to be faster (at least, where it's hard to notice any slowdown).

            Orion, OS version; hardware type:
            0.99.124.1-beta (WebKit 616.1.10), macOS Ventura 13.4; 2019 MacBook Pro

            Image/Video:

Thanks for the video. It does not look "that" bad though for a 40mb history file. Wondering how would safari behave with same size history.

Vlad I only have 10 MB in Safari, but it's practically instant.

I have a 15 MB history file which also has a noticeable delay.

Same issue here every time history is clicked for first time the browser is opened

                    15 MB History file
