The history menu takes a long time to open.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Have a large history (my ~/Library/Application Support/Orion/Defaults/history file is 12MB)
  • Click the history menu bar item.

Expected behavior:
Instantly show the history menu with up to 20 of your last visited pages in history.

Orion, OS version; hardware type:
Orion Version 0.99.110-beta (WebKit 613.1.12)
macOS Version 10.15.7 (19H1615)
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)

Image/Video:

I've been using Orion for quite a while, but this doesn't happen to me.

If you want to "safely" test this, you could zip up (i.e. backup) your ~/Library/Application Support/Orion folder, then erase it, test it out, and restore your old profile once you're done.

If you wanted to do the files individually, you want to quit Orion, then backup (and subsequently remove):

      ~/Library/Application Support/Orion/Defaults/history
      ~/Library/Application Support/Orion/Defaults/history-shm
      ~/Library/Application Support/Orion/Defaults/history-wal

Just fully quit Orion before deleting anything, or restoring anything. Then you should be able to test this and see whether it happens without a large history.

        gp Thanks.

I can confirm that deleting the 3 history files eliminates the issue.

          2 months later

Clicking "Develop -> Empty Cache" removed the lagging without clearing history on my machine.

            11 days later
            a year later

I'm still experiencing this as of 0.99.124.1-beta, with a ~/Library/Application Support/Orion/Defaults/history of 37.8 MB (it's particularly noticeable when using Help > Search).

Klay Please open a new bug report. If you are comfrtable sharing history file or anything else that would help us reproduce the issue that would be great.
