  • Regression: Ads appear on YouTube with content blocker on after updating Orion to 1.3.0

  • BugsMobileDone

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Make sure to be on the latest version of Orion iOS. Currently 1.3.0 (8) (WebKit 8615.3.12.10.2)
  2. Make sure content blocker is on
  3. Head to YouTube.com and start watching/click on videos.

Result: Ads may pop in with no video but only audio (so far as of testing)

Expected behavior:
It is expected for there to be no ads on YouTube. I do not recall receiving ads before 1.3.0.

Orion, OS version; hardware type:
1.3.0 (8) (WebKit 8615.3.12.10.2), iOS 16.6; iPhone 14 Pro Max

I also noticed the same issue. Orion was the only browser where I could watch YouTube videos without annoying long ads, but after this update, it is no different from any other browser. 😔

same experience, sadly. ad-blocking was great, but now it's an advertising nightmare to watch youtube with orion browser.

Vlad changed the title to Regression: Ads appear on YouTube with content blocker on after updating Orion to 1.3.0 .

The issue seems to be fixed now in new update…

As of the 23rd of December, the issue with ads on YouTube have re-occurred

I'm also seeing them get through quite a bit on 1.3.8 (iOS 14). I cleared website cache and settings, still seeing them. Content blocking set to "Full". It's usually these AdChoices ads, but I may just be noticing them more because of the logo

Sometimes I can see the content area (particularly the bottom bar) grayed-out, as if the content is being blocked, but not the content area (I'm forgetting the word).

They're properly blocked without a residual element box showing when using Safari with Wipr

            On macrumors (Orion):

            Same site, Safari with Wipr:

Confirming the issue appears to be WebKit update related as i don't experience it on iOS 18 but do on iOS 14. That may be considered a different issue than the one this thread is about though. Updating to close the loop though.

This thread has been marked done though
