This is supported in Safari Technology Preview Release 173 (Safari 17.0, WebKit 19616.1.20.2) so I wonder if this will come automatically when Orion updates WebKit

Apparently JXL support is working in v. 0.99.125-beta (WebKit 616.1.22), although obviously won’t work except in macOS Sonoma or newer. I had Cloudinary turn on JXL support for my account — you have to request it for now — and noticed that Orion “sees” some of my Cloudinary-hosted images as JXLs, but can’t render them because I’m still on macOS Ventura until next Monday’s release of Sonoma. 🤷 All my other browsers ”see” these images as AVIFs.

BryceWray Thanks for the heads up.

The way support for media formats work with WebKit is that most of them are supported at the macOS level, rather than at a browser/webkit level.

it is one of the reasons Orion/Safari didn't need an update recently when webp critical vulnerability was uncoevered, but macOS patched it.

        Just an update:

In Orion 0.99.125-beta, JPEG XL is supported

        In 0.99.125.5-rc, it is not

Safari and Safari Technology Preview 180 both support it now as well.
