This is a good idea!

you could also keep it disabled for certain domains that you select. This would be a good idea for messenger.facebook.com or whatapps etc

optuma You can already do this if you pin them! (pinned tabs do not get suspended)

Just to add, PIP tabs shouldn't get suspended either!

Perhaps this should be a separate feature request, but it seems (to me!) the most 'obvious' condition for Low Power Mode to detect would be when I'm running on battery… wouldn't it?

While automatically enabling Low Power Mode on battery would make a lot of sense as default behaviour, to really capitalise on this adaptive performance advantadge over other browsers, perhaps it should still be a user preference to still allow users to opt out…?

Perhaps to better distinguish these feature requests, this issue "Low Power Mode detection" might be better described as something like "Detect tabs that should not be suspended in Low Power Mode"…?

Anyway, thanks for all the excellent work on Orion and to the users for great feedback and suggestions.

transeunt We can not automatically enable it as it effectively suspends content of the tab - and the user may have important information there. What we do however is suggest it to user when they reach I beleive 10% battery.

Vlad Agree of course you couldn't enable Low Power automatically, without giving user choice, might it be viable as a user preference?

As for the risk of losing important context/input etc, of course I was piggy backing off the good refinements discussed here, re those very points — i.e. assuming playing audio, and form input, were excluded from Low Power Mode, I'd personally be very happy to opt for it be be automatically enabled on battery.

This may be less of an issue for  Silicon Macs, but my 6-Core Intel Core i7 has pathetic battery performance, and I'm tethered to a desk — so it'd be awesome to use Low Power Mode (and maybe Tab Groups) to dramatically lessen browser load I need open for work (Jira, Confluence + other docos, Miro, research, myriad other web apps.)

Likewise, I understand your conservative approach re enabling at 10%… but (again for me personally) that wouldn't buy me much time! 😅

          Thanks for your time. 😃

transeunt The option is still a click away, and for power conscious users that should not be a problem, specially given Orion is only browser that even has this feature built in this way. I agree we can have some additional options around this, feel free to make another suggestion thread with your thinking on the subject.
