Yes and I think we can call it 'Link routing'. My only concern is discoverability if we were to place this button here, almost guranteed that a fraction of users would ever find it. So probably a reference here would be needed as well
Option to have certains URLs to be opened in defined profile
Arc has a feature called Air Traffic Control, which automatically opens links in the right space according to some predefined rules.
It's not a perfect implementation (I have filed issues to enable links to be rearranged in order of priority, and to enable more advanced matching such as regex patterns) but it'll be a good start.
For example, while I am in the "Office" profile, under the "Dev work" named window, I can click on YouTube links I come across during the day and they'll still go to the "Personal" profile, under the "Entertainment" named window so that they don't interrupt my flow and I can go to my entertainment window at the end of the day and have some content lined up to see.
This also works to sort my work tabs. When I click on GitHub notifications for my work repo, it opens a tab in the "Office" profile/"Dev work" window and when I click on notifications for my personal repo, it opens a tab in my "Personal" profile/"Dev work" window.
I wanted to share an idea that I think could really enhance the Orion browser experience. I’ve noticed that Microsoft Edge has a feature where different profiles can be linked to specific URL addresses, allowing for automatic profile switching.

https://www.downloadsource.net/how-to-configure-microsoft-edge-to-switch-user-profiles-automatically/n/17380/
Implementing such a feature in the Orion browser could provide users with greater flexibility and efficiency, allowing them to seamlessly switch profiles based on the URLs they visit. It would be great to see this idea considered by the development team, as it aligns with enhancing user privacy and organization.
Do you think it would be possible to implement something similar in the Orion browser? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!
Best regards,
Yuriy
This is a feature that Safari 18 has, and Arc Browser has (called Air Traffic Control). It allows me to control which profile is opened or a link is directed to open in, based on the domain name.
For example:
I have two profiles, Work & Personal. I am logged in to websites like X.com, YouTube, Amazon etc. in my Personal profile. When I click on an X.com link or a YouTube link, it will only open them in my personal profile, even if I last used the Work profile. My employer uses Microsoft services, so I use this feature to direct any work links to my Work profile like what happens with non-work links in my Personal profile
This is an incredible feature that I miss when using Orion. In fact, I see it as the last major feature for me to that would make Orion my full-time browser.
See attached screenshots from Safari 18 & Arc. I would recommend an implementation similar to Safari's.
Just set It simple as Safari does. It will be perfect.
This would definitely be a rock solid feature for productivity. I'm still stuck with Arc exactly for this reason.
Guess I'll try Safari for a while, since I didn't know about the Open Links with profile functionality.
I would like to see additional profile management functionality:
- Allow me to manage a list of URL's and "assign" them to open in specific profiles. For example, banking sites (xyzbank.com) always open in a Personal or Banking profile; while a company intranet URL always opens in a Work profile. Should allow wildcard support (i.e. *.intranet.url)
- Allow me to move a currently-open tab to another profile (would be ideal if I were prompted to "Always open this site in <Profile>?" which would add it to the list mentioned in the first bullet. Perhaps add "Move to..." in the menu when you click the profile indicator next to the URL bar? See crude mockup below...
The mapping of URL's to Profiles:
- should be synced and use on Desktop and Mobile versions of Orion
- should allow importing and exporting (simple CSV would be fine) a list of URLs --> Profiles
I haven't seen a browser handle this well. Edge has a bit of this functionality:
- Edge has a profile list where you can "assign" URL's to open in specific Profiles. However, this list is not currently synced, which makes it a weak feature. You have to manually recreate the list on each computer. Edge allows you to right-click on a tab and move it to a new workspace but not a new profile.
Here is my crude mockup of how it might work.
This would make Profiles much more useful, as I could automatically open specific sites in the correct profile every time. That would help separate work vs. personal vs. nonprofit vs. kids sports teams vs. ...
For reference, here is what Edge's profile mapping (aka "Custom site switch") UI looks like:
When you click the elipsis at the end, you can only "Edit" or "Delete" each line. Editing let's you adjust the URL, set the "Action" (Switch or Don't Switch), and set the target profile.
Could probably merge this one as well, as like many people in this thread it is asking for one of the primary features of the FF Multi-Account Container plugin:

Just these two threads (and I'm sure there's more) have over 300 votes, making this general idea the most highly voted submission by a decent margin.
@h2flux I think had the right idea in 2021 re: Profiles vs Containers, basically Profiles is the encompassing browsing session (eg "Work", "School", "Personal", etc), and then Containers are URL-defined, quaratined tabs within those sessions. For example, I have YouTube and other social media accounts for work, but I also have my personal YouTube/etc accounts. Separating these two into "Work" and "Personal" Profiles is beneficial from a tab/window organization standpoint, and Containers are strictly a tool to quarantine cookies and the like, not for organization. This lets the feature of automatic URL-defined Container not be hamstrung by multiple user accounts on the same domain, which is the case in FF Containers. In FF, if you want to have two "YouTube" tabs with separate Containers (eg a work YT account and a personal YT account), you cannot have automatic URL-based opening for both. I know many of us have this issue with Gmail as well. Orion's general browsing segregation by profiles would accomplish this by default if Containers were an aspect of individual Profiles and did not share configuration across profiles, which I assume is the existing functionality for other Profile data and config. With just this one extra layer of quarantine I think users could combine them in various ways to achieve their intended uses without needing wider featureset from devs. As far as UI/UX goes, I think many of us don't really care that much as the main function here is intended to be automatic, and Profiles has an existing UI that I think works just fine and could be mostly copied for Container config, both are mostly a one-time thing per item and not a part of everyday browsing.
tl;dr this feature is the most popular in the Suggestions list by a significant margin. I totally get the limited resources, but if we're going off Suggestion popularity, this is clearly the frontrunner.

You linked this same thread. Did you mean to link a different thread?
Safari has a pretty straightforward UI for this. Would love to have similar functionality in Orion:
