safari 17 (it doesn't require sonoma) now supports this, for both the normal tab style and the compact style.
it supports cmd and shift.
it also adds a nice indicator when dragging multiple tabs around.

Imo this is a very much needed functionality, for like closing a group of tabs or moving them to a different window within a workspace, or moving them to a new app window.
What's the status on this? I just discovered this browser and love it except for this feature and the inability to just have these be actual FOLDERS instead of a "nested tab" which is pretty dumb IMHO. Just lemme make a folder with a name and drop tabs into versus having like a "parent" tab and their "siblings" — but this original post is from... checks watch... 3 years ago.
Will this ever happen or should I just abandon my desire for privacy and just go to Arc? Because Arc handles this super well. Frankly I like how much cleaner Orion is, really gets out of the way, and is just so far a great experience. But yea... this kind of tab management is SUPER critical. Especially coming from Brave where I would, like other folks in the thread, do this all the time.
Thanks team!
Safari has the ability to multi-select tabs then drag them over to a new window. There is a similar open request but it seems more related to an extension and not native functionality.
Either way I wanted to open one specifically for horizontal tabs and dragging it to a new window as a feature.
It would work like this:
eirk interesting. i assumed orion would work the same way but doesnt. would be super nice to have that!
Is there any update on this? This is a feature I've gotten very used to having this functionality when working with multiple groups of tabs/windows in other browsers.
This would be very useful. I am using it several times a day in other browsers. Selecting multiple tabs and either moving them, or closing them all at once.
Just like when you shift+select two bookmarks and all of the bookmarks inbetween get selected, it should also work on vertical tabs. Currently that does not work.
Basically, every single area which has an NSListDefinition should have the ability to be command select and the usual native operating system selection should be, including the undo shortcut.
I'd say this is a very needed fix
I've been trying Orion for the past couple of weeks as a switch from Arc and it's almost perfect... but I think this is going to be a blocker for me actually switching
It makes tab tidying so unwieldy in comparison, even without the Tidy feature.
I'm so sad to see this was moved to under review from planned. This is also still the big blocker for me being able to switch to this otherwise extraordinary browser. Is there any design or technical work we users can do? Or is there some other way we can help facilitate this feature?
To other users: i've donated money and called out this feature as most important to me. If you also love Orion and want this feature, you can do the same (though of course only Vlad and team know the best way to prioritize holistically)
CitizenEldon Thank you for your support. At this moment we are focusing on fixing bugs and inmproving stability and this feature is likely to add more complexity. So we will push it a bit out.
