I think Orion should let users change where the new tab appears, next to current tab or last tab.
I know mobile version already has this feature, hoping desktop version could get it too!
Open new tab next to current tab
Second this! I was wondering whether this was an intentional change since the latest release.

I just discovered that the following is possible (for anyone who finds it very inconvenient to move tabs around after every Cmd+T
while waiting for the next release):
- In current tab, select address bar contents (e.g., by hitting
Cmd+L
) - Type search or URL where you want the new tab to go
- Press
Cmd+Enter
(At this point, in background, a new tab will open as a first child of the current tab) - Press
Esc
(At this point, current tab’s address bar will reset back to its address) - Press
Cmd+Shift+]
to switch to the newly opened tab
Takes 2–3 seconds.
As a bonus, since in this case the new tab is opened in background (I hope this behavior doesn‘t change), it makes it very quick to spawn many tabs as children to the current tab one after another (useful during research): just don’t do step 4 and 5 above, and instead repeat steps 1 to 3 however many times needed.
