One advantage of Safari's implementation of tab groups is the ability to arrange them in your preferred order. This lets me arrange tab groups by broad topic (work-related tab groups, family-related tab groups, etc). I even did a hack-y thing where I created an empty tab group and named it "____________________" to create a separator between topics.

In Safari, this is accomplished in the sidebar. In Orion, perhaps a list of the user's tab groups would be best located in the History/Bookmarks/Reading List/Passwords/Extensions window, where they could be dragged around to set their order in the menu, like with bookmarks. Tab groups could also be renamed from there without having to be opened, which is another nice Safari feature.

By the way: what currently determines the order of the tab groups in the menu? It's not alphabetical, and it's not in order of their creation or modification—I can't figure it out.

Good idea to manage them from the Libray window

I love the idea of Orion. The only thing holding me back is this. I have 10-15 tab groups on Safari right now. Each tab groups are sectioned next to each other like this: relaxation section, school section, and productive section.

Could you implement a way similar to Safari's tab groups where you can drag around named windows, and maybe also a 1-layer folder system where it can store an infinite amount of named windows (but it can not store other folders)?

DekoMoon Can you specify what would the UI implementation of this look like, given how Orion manages tab groups currently?

For organizing tab groups, maybe something similar to how Safari do it with theirs in the sidebar, where you can drag around tab groups like bookmarks. For the folder system, maybe a system similar to the bookmark system except that folders can't be inside another folder, and the state of a tab group are saved (url of sites I visited and did not close) after a set time of closing or when too many open & closed tabs are in the background?

For the folder system, I was hoping for something similar to Workona's. I used to use this extension before they turned it into a SaaS.

Merged 4 posts from Would it be possible to implement a way to organize the named windows in Windows toolbar.

Note that Orion has the option of Vertical tabs which Safari doesn't. Not sure how to marry the two efficiently.

The window switcher (found on top-left of Orion toolbar) is a great way to switch contexts. I personally use one window for "personal" unordered stuff, and then one window per project.

An important missing feature for me is being able to reorder windows here:

              and here:

I want to be able to always have the personal window on top of the list (accessible by Cmd-Opt-1). This is a case in screenshots above, but only by accident :-)

                Tab groups are windows

                  5 days later

This is actually how it should work by default. When you select another window, the previous one should be closed. If someone wants not to close the previous window, they should choose an option "open window" or sth like that. However, by default it should work like Safari Tab Groups. I don't need to have 5 windows open at the same time. It's unproductive. Even if I wanted, I would open them manually. I need a quick solution.

You can make a separate request for this.

Maciek - in the defense of the development team, managing priorities is one of the hardest parts of creating any product (especially as complex as web browser). I'd even go as far as saying that the skill of saying No (or at least, Maybe Later), despite what we (users who request features) want, is the most important skill of a great product manager.

vladstudio But the point is that you even didn't say NO. The thing I hate about developers is that they always think they know best. They judge the idea only by themselves, not asking anybody else for their opinion. That's just rude, cause you're not the smartest, guys. You're not end users. Create apps for users, not for developers or designers.

There's this entire feedback website and the discord server to ask for the end user's opinions

More than 1200 users here, and over 11k messages. 2.3k members in the discord server. Not asking for anybody elses opinions? Being rude???
