and instead just add a little text after the window name to indicate if it has already loaded or not. like so:
Perhaps we could also solve this with a different icon indicating a window is on disk.
This one suggests a window will be created:
This one suggests window will be replicated:
Alternatively (saved) or (open) text could be added to title.
Any preference?
if we do that then there will be no user confusion when we add a new list entry that basically switches to the desired window but also close the current one.
So you are suggesting the first two items in menu being
View Window
Switch to Window
?
I feel this is already getting a bit out out of hand for a typical user but OK..
If I'm not mistaken, Safari doesn't keep the "hidden" window in RAM forever.
It does, until you close the browser. Then all of them are closed and will be reloaded on restart/first activation.
I do not feel adding an option for this in preferences is the way to go. The feature is already niche. We can not be adding every little niche setting to preferences.
I do not like the idea of 'hiding the window'. It feels very dishonest to user and system resources. We could close it asking the user in a dialogue and offering them a checkbox to indicate "Alwys close when switching in the future" or something like that. This will destroy context of tabs though.
Feels like this part needs more refinement.
This is turning into a big feature suggestion, what a refinement 😄
People often do not realize how complex the job of building a browser is and how things that sound simple on paper often have very deep consenquances.
