Steps to reproduce:

  • Install Dark Reader extension (I have the Chrome version)
  • Browse some websites (for me subreddits tend to be better to show the behaviour)
  • There's a white flash while the extension "kicks in"

Expected behavior:
The page should instantly load in dark mode

Orion and macOS:
0.99.107.17-beta, macOS Monterey

Image/Video:
In this video I try both Orion and Safari. On Orion there's white flashes (mostly on reddit), on Safari it loads instantly in dark mode

catch-22 Can you verify with the same extension in Chrome? Want to make sure it is not an extension issue.

Vlad on Chrome the behaviour is the same as in Safari, i.e. the pages load instantly in dark mode

      Steps to reproduce:
Install RES extension (chrome version is the one I use), browse Reddit, pay attention to reddit's top bar: it starts out with glitches, and takes a second or two to fix itself

      Expected behavior:
Upon loading reddit.com, or any subreddit, the top menu bar should load instantly without any glitches, like on Chrome and Firefox

      Orion and macOS:
Orion 0.99.108-beta and previous, macOS Big Sur & Monterey

      Image/Video:

In general I noticed the same thing happens with most extensions, like for me i use one that changes the interface of twitch, in chromium the css injected seems to be applied at the end before the page really loads, making stark changes less apparent, but in orion it seems like there is more of a delay leading to the page fully loading and then the css from extensions are loaded...

The same happens with BetterTTV as well, when i move the Twitch chat to the left it takes a while for the css from the extenstion to take effect, making the chat appear on the right, and then after a second it is on the left, in chromium i never had an issue with it, usally the custom css from the extension in loaded at the end before the page can even render making the chat always on the left (as it should). I thought this was related, because both are (seemingly) caused by the same "delay".

Merged 2 posts from RES extension glitches and has a delay "kicking in".

I'm so happy to see this marked as coming soon, as it's the only thing preventing me from making the switch from Safari. It's such an irritating experience to deal with. It's definitely not just Dark Reader, either. I see the same issue with most dark theme pages.

Jeremy I'm on the exact same boat. I can deal with most of the other bugs, but the extension related ones are the only ones preventing me from making Orion my main browser as they're so essential.

            Steps to reproduce:
Enable night mode on old reddit. Reload the page. Alternatively you can open a new tab and open reddit.

Here's how to enable night mode (applies only to old reddit interface since RES itself only deals with old reddit mainly).
            Expected behavior:
On Chrome or Firefox the page loads up in dark mode instantly. That is, there is no flashing, where the page starts out light and then turns dark.
            Orion, OS version; hardware type:
Orion Version 0.99.112-beta, MacOS 12.2.1, M1 Macbook Air

Can confirm, this has been happening for a long time

                a year later

                Steps to reproduce:
Reddit Enhancement Suite is installed, browsing old Reddit, with Night Mode enabled in the RES settings:

                1. Load any subreddit or page
                2. Page is bright white (light mode default) for a second and the RES controls are missing, then turns dark when the RES extension loads

                Expected behavior:
On other browsers this delay between page load and RES loading never happens, tested on Edge and Firefox. RES is not supported on Safari.

                Orion, OS version; hardware type:
                Orion: Version 0.99.123.3-beta (WebKit 615.1.16.1)
OS: macOS Ventura 13.1 build 22C65
                Hardware: MacBook Air (M1, 2020)

Merged 6 posts from RES night mode takes a couple second to active on a new tab or when a tab is reloaded.
