Hi,

Latest RC, great to see that Touch ID integration is now done, but it needs some improving. In fact it doesn't prompt the authentication automatically like Safari does, it also doesn't login automatically after the authentication done, again both things are native in Safari. Videos are available in Discord RC chat.

Regards,

Safari (touch id is pressed at approx 3.5 seconds):

Orion (touch id is pressed at approx 5.5 seconds):

eirk Thank you, was really busy lately, haven't been in the form since my posting.

      Hi,

would that be possible if Orion prompts the password to fill it just needs the Touch ID to approve and also choosing the prompted passwod without manual selecting.
The same way like in Safari.

eirk changed the title to Get Touch id for autofill without separate prompt .

This is really niche, and I'm not sure if this will be implementable. But if possible, will make password autofilling smoother. I'm using a 2020 intel macbook pro.

            Safari:
To fill passwords. I click the username field, it shows me some suggestions, and I can put my finger on the touch id to instantly fill it.

            Orion:
I click the username field, it shows me some suggestions, I press enter to select first option and then I can put my finger on the touch id to fill it.

The difference is only in Orion I have to explicitly press enter, which is 1 extra keystroke. In safari it implicitly detects if I try to use touch ID. I can add pictures later if my description is not clear.

This is definitely a duplicate, but i can't find it.

TMK, this is a restriction that Apple has. Non-apple apps can't get touch id input without the touch id prompt, so this may be a necessary step.

Yep, Apple imposed restriction. Looking for some creative way to get around this.

On Safari, you either have to only click into the username / password field or it automatics goes into that, "press" the Touch-ID and it fills it in automatically.

On Orion, you need to click to use the Autofill, then you can "press" the Touch-ID to allow it. Is that a possible change?

Note: I hope its not a problem that the pictures are in German.

so, in safari, you are able to just press your finger print down to autofill it, but in orion, you have to click and then use your finger print

Whenever I access my universities's SAP or LMS Moodle, I need to first click on the box then click passwords to login using Touch ID. Do you guys can simplify this step just like in Safari where it can directly request you to login using your Touch ID.

                              Thanks a bunch!

                                  Brief Summary
Allow selection and authentication of login credentials with just TouchID.

                                  Details:
Safari lets you select, authenticate and fill credentials with just a touch. Right now in Orion you must mouse, click, then authenticate. If possible it would be nice to have the same Safari behavior.

                                  • When a login form is active or in focus and Orion has a saved user/password:
                                    • Highlight the first set of credentials in the login drop down (or the only one)
                                    • Placing your finger on TouchID would select, authenticate and fill in the form
                                    • Mousing to another login to use would then prompt to use TouchID

                                  Image/Video:

Merged 2 posts from TouchID to Select Login.

When I log into say for example yt on safari when i hit sign in i just have to place my finger on the touch id button and it signs me into the last account i signed into with. In orion, however, I have to tap sign in and then tap the account name and only then place my finger on the touch id button, i know it sounds like a nitpicky thing, but I personally find it really annoying.

can we have an option in settings to do it like edge? edge doesnt ask for any authentication method whatsoever, no touch id nothing, it just puts the password in lol, i think i prefer this to tapping on the account and then putting my finger on the touch id button. also in edge, it auto fills the details for the last used account, and for ex if i tap on the email field, itll open a drop down menu, with all my accounts for that website, and tapping on the account i want autofills the details, once again with no authentication.

We finally have this (requires Sonoma). Just landed in the latest RC!

                                              a month later

I saw that the devs added Touch ID Autofill as one step now which is a feature I've wanted for a long time and was excited to try it out but I can't seem to get it to work

Touch ID for passwords is enabled, restarted the browser and my laptop and still nothing.

I thought the feature added would mean that when i put my finger to verify my finger, it would autofill

                                              Version 0.99.126.1-beta (WebKit 618.1.2)

                                              Sonoma (14)

Merged 1 post from Touch ID for password autofill still requiring seperate prompt.
                                                2 months later

Vlad It has been working on websites in my experience. But any chance we could also get this for the Orion keychain / password manager window?

There, it's still a button click to activate Touch ID.

This also breaks the system-wide visual convention that whenever you see the pink fingerprint icon, Touch ID is already waiting for input. See examples from the standard system pop-up (left) and a custom view of a locked note in Notes.app (right):
