  • Tree tabs is showing copies of the entire list underneath random items

  • BugsDesktopDone

the tree tabs randomly show copies of the entire list as children of random items. I don't know how to reproduce this but it just happens

tree tab list should not duplicate itself :<

Orion
Version 0.99.131-beta (WebKit 621.1.2.111.4)
Build date Feb 13 2025
MacBook Pro (macOS Sequoia 15.3.1 build 24D70)

this seems to happen sometimes when I open a bunch of new tabs with cmd+clicking on links and then close one of the new tabs, the bottom-most tab will gain a copy of the entire list and then I'll have to hit "Close Tabs Below" on something above it in order to get rid of it, because the one that has the copy of the entire list won't be closable with the X anymore

When using the vertical tabs sidebar, if a tab is closed and then the close is undone (via CMD + SHIFT + T or CMD + Z), the tab should reappear. Instead, what often happens is that instead of the closed tab reappearing, ANOTHER tab disappears. The tab count shown in the vertical toolbar is still technically correct, but the actual tabs shown are incorrect as one or more tabs are missing from the list.

Please watch the video for a demonstration. In the video, first I open up a total of 13 tabs. At this point, when 13 tabs are open, the ONLY actions I am taking on the tabs are closing (CMD + W) and reopening (CMD + SHIFT + T) . You can see the issue appear immediately. 13 tabs are open. CMD+W closes the open tab and therefore that tab disappears from the list and the number of open tabs updates to 12 - this is correct. The next thing I do is hit CMD + SHIFT + T, which should reopen the last closed tab, but instead, it makes two additional tabs disappear from the tab list and does not reappear the last closed tab, although the count of tabs correctly updates back to 13. This sequence of closing tabs and trying to reopen them continues throughout the video, and you can see more and more tabs disappear from the list as I try to reopen closed tabs. At the end of the video, I change from vertical tabs to horizontal tabs and back to vertical, at which point the proper tabs all reappear in the vertical sidebar.

When a closed tab is "undone", the tab should reappear in the vertical list, and no additional tabs should disappear.

The last few updates to Orion feel like a significant regression, I am encountering so many new bugs (this one and the 1Password bugs that I reported already, among others).

Yes!! I have yet to write a bug report for this myself, but this (plus inconsistent behavior with 1password and uBlock) is the main reason I'm giving up on Orion as my main browser. Having tab bugs like this makes me furious when it's happening multiple times a day.

Simon you and I are on the same page. I am willing to overlook a lot of shortcomings, and can even live with the UBlock issues (though it annoys me). But reliable basic functionality like tabs, and full 1Password support, are non-negotiable.

@Yannick have you been able to replicate this bug?

I see similar weirdness, but additionally see the tabs start to appear as nested, duplicated copies (even though I have nesting turned off) — the duplicates are weird because clicking on one of them does nothing, but clicking on the others works and switches to the tab.

wincent Yes, I have seen that too. The last few updates to Orion have really created a mess. It was pretty stable prior to then for quite a while, and now core features are totally broken.

Anon Nope. It is working fine on the .131-beta, don't have access to 131-rc right now -_-

Yannick You are a Product Manager for Orion, and don't have access to the most recent RC build? That is...shocking

@Vlad can you take a look at this issue...

Anon "Right now" →On iPad to respond quickly. Breathe.

Anon I have indeed managed to reproduce the bug.

I think some of the wonkiness is related to the "Close window with last tab" setting being turned off.

When it is off, closing a tab sometimes results in these weird nested duplicates being created:

Yannick Oh... I think it's new. Is it somehow related to this?

Yes. That looks like the same issue.

Merged 13 posts from Vertical tabs disappear / vertical tab toolbar becomes corrupted when closing a tab and then undoing the close.

I encounter this bug a number of times daily. It's very annoying. I hope this can be fixed ASAP.
