  • Vlad Page tweaks is more strict on HTML elements. Distraction control is more "chill" so to say more on the UX rather then strict HTML elements.

    Can you explain what this means?

    Yes, Sp page when trying to "hide" the cookie thing on tweakers.net on orion:

    It is still presented with a "blur" as if the cookie thing was still there:

    When I do this on Safari (only have the beta on mobile):

    The blur is also hidden, and the website useable:

    Also on the Orion browser "Erase elements" is showing a section of a thing to be hidden, and hides the whole thing as shown earlier

    Selection screenshot:

    Which is a bit misleading.

    This is why I like the "distraction control" UX better on Safari. It just works better / simpler.

    • Apple's is slightly better tho. As the safari's "distraction control" allows me to use tweakers.net for example after hiding the cookie screen. Orion does not. Scrolling is still not possible.

      And currently Orion Mobile does not support this page-tweaks.

      Edit: Page tweaks is more strict on HTML elements. Distraction control is more "chill" so to say more on the UX rather then strict HTML elements.

      • The difference between kagi.com and news.ycombinator.com is that HN has a svg.

        <head>
          <link rel="icon" href="y18.svg">
        </head>

        And kagi.com uses a icon.

        <head>
            <link rel="apple-touch-icon" sizes="180x180" href="https://assets.kagi.com/v2/apple-touch-icon.png?v=ac011564ec30415537879cb454f81062e6e78308" />
            <link rel="icon" type="image/png" sizes="32x32" href="https://assets.kagi.com/v2/favicon-32x32.png?v=ac011564ec30415537879cb454f81062e6e78308" />
            <link rel="icon" type="image/png" sizes="16x16" href="https://assets.kagi.com/v2/favicon-16x16.png?v=ac011564ec30415537879cb454f81062e6e78308" />
            <link rel="mask-icon" href="https://assets.kagi.com/v2/safari-pinned-tab.svg?v=ac011564ec30415537879cb454f81062e6e78308" color="#FFB319" />
        </head>

        Not sure if this matters, but that's what I see in difference between the two and others.

        • I can confirm the "back" and "forward" does indeed "fix" the issue for that tab, that website. However, in the screen recording I took it's the same on all tabs. You even see the icon flash in it's correct form and then beaks (3rd tab).

          • mohitgarg68 It does not clarify how you got to the mangled favicons.

            Can you provide exact steps eg:

            1. Open browser
            2. Goto [url]
            3. Note the favicon being mangled (screenshot)

            And also what you would expect?

            That said, did some digging my self,

            1. Orion browser
            2. Optional: Tabs vertical setting enabled
            3. Open urls, github.com, ycombinator.com and news.ycombinator.com

            Horizontal tabs, just for completeness.

            Note github and Y Combinator have correct icons, but hackernews does not.

            Where in Safari:

            Or chrome:

            Is this what you have as well @mohitgarg68 ?

            Edit:
            Orion favorites:

            Note: Icons here are normal.

            • Currently when you close the last tab Orion will close the main window. And people, I included, want this window to remain open with a new fresh start page.

              Adding a checkbox at "Orion > Settings > Tabs" named "Close window when closing last tab"

              Behaviour:
              When the checkbox is checked (true): Orion main window closes upon closing last tab (current behaviour)
              When the checkbos is unchecked (false): Orion main window will not close upon closing last tab. But rather open a "new tab" with the "Start Page". (Similar behaviour on mobile Orion / mobile Safari).

              • Vlad If you compare it to Safari, it works like Safari. Upon closing the last tab Orion will close the main window.

                However, that's not what is being asked by people. What is being asked is to add a checkbox at "Orion > Settings > Tabs" named "Close window when closing last tab"

                • I did see that option to copy settings upon creation. But I'm trying to figure out if I like orion (coming from Safari). And changing settings 3-4 times everytime I like how it looks / feels is a pain. And recreating a profile is not an option due to bookmarks / history.

                  In my specific case, i could try Orion as a daily driver till I know if this browser can replace Safari, and after which I create the profiles I require.

                  • Orion happens to have profile support that is clearly separated from other profiles. But I personally like concistency even across multiple profiles. Would be nice to be albe to sync up (browser Appearance) settings between profiles.

                    Just to name a few:

                    • Tab placement (Standard, Compact or Vertical)
                    • Mini Toolbar
                      ect..

                    With this feature a user can copy (browser appearance) settings via the profile manager:

                    1. Open Profile manager
                    2. On the bottom a button added "Copy settings"
                    3. Menu flow that allowes you to select what kind of settings you want to copy. With a from and to profile.

                    This way you can still control different settings between profiles, but also make changes in one place, and copy them to to other profiles.
