Ok will do. Thank you!
If there could be a third option perhaps, of a super slimmed down version like in Vivaldi.
And when you need to close a tab, you will need to click on it to make it an active tab and then a 'x' pops up in the middle of the favicon for you to click again to close it. See images below.
For some reason, when taking a screenshot, it doesnt capture the 'x' that displays when you you hover over the active tab favicon. But I hope what im trying to say is still clear.
Ah I did not know that. Thank you!
Could we add a setting that flips it? Where the default would be to place it anywhere and holding command would snap it to the four corners?
Just thinking ease of use caseWhen Picture in Picture is active, to be able to position it in any place you wish rather than the forced four corners of the screen. This gives the user a lot more control where they can place the window, making it easier to navigate webpages or other applications.
Some browsers I know that do this is Arc and Vivaldi as an example.
Apologies, I didn't realise the 'tab overview button'. That is similar to what I had in mind, mimicking Mission Control but in a grid fashion.
Could there be a way to highlight/group tabs that are nested together in the tab overview? That way you know which tabs are related to each other when in tab overview.Hey Milo,
I really like your ideas and initial mock ups. It looks clean and not too cluttered. What do you think about the bookmarks location? You reckon it would still work if you can place your bookmarks on the vertical sidebar on the left and have them as a tab group essentially so you can expand/collapse them? They would in essence act as pinned tabs similar to in Arc and as you've shown.
As for bookmarks in the horizontal tab bar, they would act as pinned tabs and open the webpage in place rather than opening in a new tab. This was discussed in the below thread:
https://orionfeedback.org/d/5377-larger-iconshow-title-for-pinned-tabs-in-sidebar-favorites-in-sidebarI feel like these two threads come hand in hand, hence why I am mentioning it.
What are your thoughts?
Im finding it difficult to disable graphic acceleration. Sure these may be vague terms, but I am unaware of the details.
I believe OP, and myself, are looking to disable graphic acceleration.
Use case:
When streaming in discord, for example, the video playback is black and people cannot see video playback on my stream. When disabling 'graphic acceleration' or 'hardware acceleration' in other browsers, video playback becomes viewable during stream/screen share.Orions experimental features section is confusing to me as I dont know what I am looking for in all those options in all honesty.
The image below is the setting from edge allowing to disable graphic acceleration. This is what fixes my issue whenever I share my screen or browser on discord.
Vlad Fair enough.
I will try and get my point across as simply as possible.Feature proposal: Bookmarks as Pinned Tabs
Purpose:
Allow bookmarks in the bookmarks bar to act as pinned tabs, staying in place and highlighted when open (in addition to pinned tabs in the vertical bar).Details:
Bookmarks as pinned tabs in bookmarks bar: Clicking one opens the webpage directly, acting like a pinned tab. It does not open them in new tabs as it is currently.Highlight Active Bookmarks: The opened (pinned) bookmark in the bookmarks bar is highlighted to show it’s active.
Close Option on Hover: Hovering over an active bookmark in the bookmarks bar reveals an “X” button. Clicking it closes the webpage, removes the highlight, but leaves the bookmark in place.
Benefits:
Reduces Tab Clutter by preventing duplicate tabs.
Efficient Navigation by clearly marking which bookmarks are currently active.Forgive me, I am unable to illustrate with video and I dont know how to use Figma. Hopefully someone else can provide that.
Thank you @jannisborgers for illustrating my point and providing a video!
It is exactly as @jannisborgers has pointed out. Orion's pinned tabs are a bit different to what I had in mind.
@Vlad the links you provided I feel like is similar but also touching on the whole design of the vertical bar again, hence creating confusion as thats a wider discussion.I believe what people appreciate about Arcs approach on tabs, as @jannisborgers mentioned, is the 3 stages of tabs that they have in one place neatly and intuitively displayed.
Normal tabs, their pinned tabs which act as a normal browsers bookmarks with added functionality, and their favourite tabs which act as constants and favicon across all spaces at the very top.Im not particularly fussy on how they look and whether they should be bigger, id leave that to the design team to keep it coherent to Orion's design language.
I was more so suggesting to have the bookmarks bar act as pinned tabs.Right now, if I click on any of my bookmarks in the bookmark bar, it opens a new tab or replaces the website I am on (depending on the setting configuration). I would like it to function as a pinned tab just as is shown in @jannisborgers video. Clicking on them whilst on another website will not replace the website I am on, but just take me to that pinned tab/bookmark. I can then close that pinned bookmark without it deleting the bookmark/tab from my bookmarks bar/folder.
Adding folders and bookmarks to the vertical bar is a different feature request that was raised and you provided a UX mock up as @jannisborgers mentioned, which I am also a fan of and hope to see that further developed.
I would find it useful to have bookmark tabs act as pinned tabs. So when clicking on your bookmark, rather than opening a new tab of that bookmark, have it open the webpage and highlight the bookmark in some fashion to show it is open and being used (similar to arc).
If people do not like this, you can make it a setting to toggle. If turned on, when clicking on your bookmarks, the webpage will open in place and the bookmark will be highlighted. This saves new tabs being created and allows for more room for additional tabs to be created. It also makes it easier to go back to your 'pinned' bookmarks whenever you want (and you can see which are active) compared to scrolling through all your tabs to find it

It would be good if the profiles were password protected, means while switching profiles, Orion should prompt for a password for selected profiles(as per the need of user).
This can be a setting for each profile account to toggle on or off.
By profile I mean additional accounts like in Microsoft Edge.
Having different options such as a four number pin or a longer password would be useful. Or even integrate it with Apple/Face ID.Just to note - ive edited my response to avoide confusion.
Sorry that was my mistake, i meant control-tab not options tab.

I did Yh. It’s fine, I was more suggesting a complete new UI and interface to help with viewing and managing the tab switcher.
So having a command/gesture that brings up this canvas/Mission Control where you can then use your mouse and zoom to navigate. This can be in conjunction with the “control-tab” command to cycle between recent tabs for quicker navigation.
Just like on Mac where cmd+tab or windows alt+tab quickly switches between windows and the Mission Control offers a wider canvas to view and manage if you have too many windows open.At the moment, on every browser, tab multitasking is a very simple tab switcher with a dedicated hot key assigned to it. But I still find it hard and annoying to switch between my tabs especially when I have a fair amount. This will help manage all open tabs.
For a new style tab switcher, I was imagining something like Mission Control on Mac as an option. Where it brings up a large canvas of all your tabs and can even group them in localised areas of tabs that are related to each other. And also have a zoom function of zooming into one localised area for an expanded view to then select your tab. Or if it’s only a few tabs then it’s as simple as Mission Control on Mac for you to select.
This would make it so much easier to view your tabs and see which one you’re actually trying to get to!
Cool, done that.
This was the one I flagged that's similar: https://orionfeedback.org/d/3880-extra-tab-view-style-like-safari-for-ios-and-macosAdd an additional option to view your tabs like the iOS app switcher system, which is the same as how ARC Search have their tab viewer.
