skip password provider selection when there is only one active password manager
Right now, even if there is only one password provider active, like for example when only the system keychain is active, you still get an extra selection pop-up to choose this single active password manager

This second step, shown in the second screenshot is unnecessary as there is only one password provider active.

In Safari for example, this is how it works. If there is only one, it immediately even suggests a password if it knows one that is relevant for the site that you are visiting.

toonvl Third-party apps can't access Password Providers directly, so no way to integrate those with Orion's default autofill list. The way we are using for accessing other provider is very tricky, as that's the only possible way to have those used with Orion.

@dino I understand that this makes it impossible to integrate with default autofill, but I would still think it should be possible to skip that selection step? You already click on the key icon, isn't it possible to then immediately open the specific, only other password manager if there's only one? Or is that already not part of Orion's code anymore?

toonvl If you uncheck Use Orion's Keychain under Orion's Passwords settings, you should be able to see the direct list.

So what should I set this to then?
If I choose None > I don't get any autofill options
If I choose 3party > I still get the 'list' with only one option - 'Passwords...'

          • dino replied to this.

toonvl This is the expected behavior. When you choose 3party, you will see all the native Password providers as a list here, and by default you are seeing Safari's Keychain Password option. However there's no way to populate the list with autofill suggestions, as there's no way to access passwords directly from native password prociders (only Safari have powers to do that 😄 )

I understand directly autofilling with suggestions is not possible, but right now the steps to access passwords from
click the key button > click the single option 'Passwords...' > open Passwords dialog
I'm only using the system 'Passwords' app, so my question is whether it would be possible for Orion to skip the seconds step:
click the key button > open Passwords dialog
As there is only one Third-party passwords provider.

                toonvl

click the key button > open Passwords dialog

No, there's no way to bypass that Passwords... menu item, as that's completely handled by macOS, and we can only make that Passwords... menu item to give access to Passwords app.

Ok, clear. Thanks for the explanation, you can close the issue then.
