Orion is the best (only) privacy oriented browser for iOS
Librewolf is the best privacy oriented browser on Windows and Linux
Both support Firefox extensions, which are annoying to configure per browser

Firefox sync is available both as a service via mozilla, but also as a bunch of rust services that can be stood up and run individually

It would be /amazing/ if Orion supported cross-platform privacy by coordinating (at minimum) extension config sync, and (at best) common settings (search, home page, etc) with Librewolf, using the firefox sync protocols.

I dont care if they are:

  • Run by Kagi
  • Run by mozilla
  • Run by me

But standard services lower the ccost, effort and attack surface for us all

The key point here, as someone with Linux (Silverblue), FreeBSD, iOS, MacOS and windows, is that cross platform browsing is real and unavoidable, and that the more you have to hand config everything the more drift and info leakage you get.

Thanks for your attention ;p

Enable 'Firefox sync' in librewolf and Orion, using the same shared identity

Get the same 1password, kagi, nordVPN, container, uBlock origin and ideally browser shared settings across any logged in system including iOS

die rapturously happy

This does sound like a good idea, but I'm concerned about the lack of syncability when FF or Orion have their own unique settings that just don't match up nicely. how would this be communicated to the user?

Also, for extension config sync, what do u do when a non-firefox extension is installed? How would users know?
Also, a lot of firefox extensions dont exactly work, or are necessary on orion, ie
    container, nordvpn dont work
    kagi, ubo are unnecessary

      Hey @MattJCollins
Thank you for your suggestion. I've also struggled with this issue for as long as I can remember, but I don't believe it's Orion's role to address it. As @eirk said, It's already quite a challenge to make it the best browser in the world 😉)
However, if a third-party developer is interested, we'd be happy to get involved.
