No sound from microphone

Audio input is not able to capture any sound. I think this might be a permissions issue, as I do not see the microphone icon in the Mac menu bar. Orion and Orion RC have Microphone and Camera permissions. Camera capture works as expected. This is not an issue in Safari. Compatibility mode does not make a difference.

Steps:

Go to a microphone testing website, there are several: https://mictests.com, https://www.onlinemictest.com, etc.
Allow it permissions to use your microphone
Notice that MacOS does not actually grant it permissions
Click "test" button
Notice that test fails

The microphone should capture sound input and provide it to websites that have been granted permission.

I tried reproducing this issue but my microphones worked as expected. I tested on mictests.com using my AirPods Pro 2's and my AT2020 connected to an audio interface. Both showed up and were able to record both on my default profile and a fresh profile created for this test.

Are you able to reproduce this issue on a fresh profile? What kind of microphone are you using?

Here's something odd. I had just tried a mic test site, and it had trouble getting the input device, with no microphone icon in the Mac menu bar. I opened the regular Orion release, where the test passed. Now subsequent tests with Orion RC are working in one profile, but not the other.

Another oddity - only one of my 2 profiles were able to get the microphone. I created a 3rd clean profile that was able to get sound, but no Mac menubar microphone icon. I'm not sure how that is possible.

What kind of microphone are you using?

I've tried both my internal laptop mic, and external USB mic. It doesn't make a difference.

It actually does seem to be better. However this still does not work: https://meet.livekit.io

Click "Start Meeting"
Turn off the camera, and turn on the microphone, so you can notice when Orion has captured the microphone from MacOS via the top MacOS menubar microphone icon.
The MacOS microphone icon only sometimes appears.
Click "Join Room"
The MacOS microphone icon, if it was there, disappears, indicating Orion no longer has the microphone captured

Regarding the crashes, seems it only happens once per site. Even I cleared the site settings and data, restarted Orion, and let Orion ask for permission again, it will not crash and just work🤦‍♂️

I'm actually having the same problem with the latest Orion installation.
The error occures in Google Meet.
I can see the different microphone names and select them, but do not get any mic data transmitted.

Using the mictest site linked above was working once out of three tries.

It seems to be related to using multiple browser profiles. When using Orion with a single profile, I don't have the issue, but once I open a second profile, the second profile can no longer grab the microphone.

@matkam this also explains the behaviour that I can verify:
Issue only occurs in non-default profiles (I'm actually using three, with issues in the two additional ones.)

Lednerb how long have you had your 3 profiles? @Yannick did you try to repro with multiple profiles?

I'm curious to see if this bug happens only with very old profiles, or always when there are multiple profiles

This is no longer an issue for me. My microphone works in all of my Orion profiles.
