In the new orion beta, discuss document reliably works to summarize pages right next to the webpage without opening a new window.

I believe it would be much more convenient and facilitate its usability if the discuss document feature would also open next to the page instead of in a new window.

If a user wants to use the discuss document feature but also wants to check stuff themselves, it is annoying to switch between tabs. or open a separate window. If the discuss document feature opened similar to the summarize page window, this problem would be solved.

Additionally, one could also highlight sources from which discuss document takes its information directly in the webpage to facilitate quality control.

I believe this user interface implementation is an orion browser rather than a kagi search engine issue, if I am wrong please feel free to ignore.

    Hey, yes!

I have created some mock-ups. In my mind, you can start the discuss document chat like the summarize page with a right click, which then opens the chat window next to the main page.

Once a question is asked, the passage that is used as a source for the answer is highlighted in the original document.
    Hope the mockups are clear.

Yes, unless there is a third-party api based discuss document feature I think it would be. I really apreciate the integrated discuss document feature as a kagi user.

A quick google search revealed "https://chatdoc.com" as a possible third party provider. They also seem to have the "highlight in document" feature I proposed. Could be worth a look.

Thank you for your amazing work!

I was just thinking of calling the in-text highlighting of sources a "smart page search" feature. in page search has been the same forever, why not improve it by also finding contextual information, synonyms and words with the same meaning?

For example: Find "LLM" it will also search for Large language model, large language model with typos, etc. If you could talk to the search, you can further specify your needs.

Yup. The built in summarize page feature that works even with paywalled articles for sites where I’m logged in and have a subscription has been a huge part of getting me to use Orion more consistently. Integrating discuss doc in a similar way would be likewise very useful.

Kagi_feedbacker indeed this is a great feature, I would love for this to be implemented along a highlighting feature, as a user may want a summary out of multiple paragraphs.
