Monospace font preference not respected

Even when the monospace font is set to something else in the preferences, the page uses Menlo as the monospace font.

The attached image shows

the custom monospace font selected in preferences
using the font-mono class on the element
setting the font-family: monospace in the CSS
the page rendered using the Menlo font, which is different from the font family in the preferences

I expected the selected font family to be used for rendering the element when the font-family: monospace rule is present in CSS.

Yes, Safari uses the Menlo font as well. But the case is different with Safari because it doesn't even allow the user to change the font (part of the reason I don't use it as my daily driver). Orion providing this customisation was a very welcome change, so I'm really hoping this is possible and not an inherent limitation of the WebKit engine.
