Remove this "Bookmarks" folder, and make all elements inside of it appear to be outside, or rather shift all of the elements to the two as this is annoying. I understand the need for the Bookmarks Bar folder.

One more thing for bookmarks. I can only use those folders in bookmarks menu...

Instead in Safari (and other browsers)

There is a folder named Bookmarks Menu and this is what my menu is having..

I hope that doesn't make things complicated. πŸ˜ƒ

piratx I am not sure what is "Bookmarks Menu" folder for (and I do not have it Safari)?

Vlad It's named this way on Firefox and maybe Chrome, for Safari it means that the bookmarks will be inside the Bookmark menu!

piratx I think the problem is with Firefox way of dealing with bookmarks, which I'm not accustomed to (and don't really like at all). But Orion follows in Firefox footsteps so I'll make out πŸ˜€ As far as I'm concerned, I can use all subfolders from Safari bookmark menu using the βŒƒβŒ˜1 shortcut, but only a few directly through the menu. Others won't show their contents no matter how long I wait and I have no clue why. When compared to Safari 14, browsing the Bookmark menu the Firefox way is cumbersome to say the very least imho.

Bump. Still annoying to see the unnecessary "Bookmarks folder." while Safari's bookmarks sidebar is clean and perfect.
Perhaps add an option for the bookmarks sidebar and favorites folders to be combined? I prefer them combined. Commonly accessed websites should be on your bookmarks sidebar.

Also remove the "Bookmarks folder" and instead make ALL of the folders outside of the favorites folder defined as inside the bookmarks folder but shown as outside otherwise.

I guess this was based on Firefox's sidebar…

The only thing I want to add here is that Safari all those years, let us use folders under Bookmarks menu folder in the Bookmarks menu.
You could have categorized your bookmarks this way and use bookmarks bar for the daily used stuff.

                  • Vlad replied to this.

piratx I guess I am not following because when I start Safari, it does not have "Bookmarks menu" folder in Bookmarks, and when I open Bookmarks from the menu, it shows all bookmarks, just like Orion does?

Fortrikka Yes and is required by the web extensions API. We have some ideas how to mitigate this.

Vlad Perhaps it can just be hidden when it is shown in the sidebar, but still logically stored within the bookmarks folder? Meaning that everything outside it logically included within the "Boookmarks" folder but shown outside of it to save horizontal space.

Vlad it shows all Bookmark folders on the menu, right? Not the actual bookmarks.

In Orion When i click on the 'Bookmarks' menu the menu displays folders with book marks inside them.

In Safari when I click on the 'Bookmarks' menu it displays folders with book marks inside them, but also individual bookmarks.

So I think what we are asking for is the ability to show custom folders and individual bookmarks directly in the 'Bookmarks' menu. Perhaps that ability already exists? If so I can't find it.

Well, I think I can't make it clearer... In the first screen I go to BookmarksMenu, then the menu opens and I go on selecting Audio and Music subfolder: all the single bookmarks show up (second screenshot). But if I select Lyrics subfolder it looks like it's empty, but it's not (third screenshot). I have no clue why some subfolders show their contents and some does not. The number of bookmarks inside is irrelevant.

All bookmarks and subfolders show up just fine in the sidebar with the shortcut βŒƒβŒ˜1

What I'd like is a Bookmark menu just like Safari's and not Firefox, Opera etc. I understand this may be not feasible, I'm just saying that Orion present bookmark menu is cumbersome imho.

Ok I think I understand what the problem is now.

Orion has top level "Bookmarks" folder because this is required by the web extensions API. Firefox has the same.

We definitely want to find a solution for this.

This folder is annoying. Add an option to include the "Bookmarks Bar Menu" folder within the "Bookmarks" folder for reverseability if the user changes their minds.
