Wrong text colour calculation in address bar for private mode and dark websites

Description

In private mode, the text colour for the URL in the address bar is occasionally miscalculated on dark-themed websites, resulting in a white text on a white background.

Steps to Reproduce

Open https://www.jetbrains.com in private mode.

Expected Result

The URL text should be black.

Actual Result

The text appears white and is not visible.

Environment

Browser version 0.99.128.2.1.1-rc
OS version 15.1 Beta

Hi @Giancarlo, we're not able to reproduce this on our end. Are you still seeing this issue? If so, it would be super useful if you could provide a video of the steps you're taking to reproduce this.

Hi hud ,
This is still an issue on the latest Orion RC version. I'm using vertical tabs with the option to match the website's colour. This only happens in incognito mode.

Thanks for the video @Giancarlo! Still no luck reproducing this on our end, so there must be a configuration mismatch between us.

Are you using a beta or public release version of macOS?
Which version of macOS are you using when seeing this issue (i.e macOS 15.2)?
Which version of Orion are you using when seeing this?

If you're still on a beta macOS version as you mentioned in your original post, please try updating to the public release version of macOS, to see if the issue is still present.

Thanks for having a look at this. It is definitely something to do with my profile as with a clean one this doesn’t happen. I haven’t had the time to actually try to replicate it but this weekend I’ll have a look and will let you know.

I've had a bit more time to look into this. I'm on macOS 15.3.1 public release and using Orion RC (Version 0.99.130.5-rc (WebKit 621.1.2.111.4)). I have this problem on both of my laptops. Although I mentioned that it seemed to work on a clean profile, I realised that the clean profile wasn't set up with the vertical tab layout. I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I noticed that the customise toolbar icons turn white, making them invisible.
