Hard to say, it can be many things related to your setup including extensions you use. I tried with a clean orion profile and it works. Will wait to see if anyone else can reproduce.
Quick Searches Not Working Again
- Edited
I have REMOVED ALL EXTENSIONS and that has NOT fixed this issue.
That tells us this not an EXTENSION conflict causing the issue with Quick Searches not functioning.
I will proceed to completely and very thoroughly remove 100% of all traces of Orion that I can find on my iMac.
I will then download and install a fresh new copy of Orion's installer from your website and install it.
I will leave it completely 100% unaltered.
I will then very carefuly set up a Quick Search and try to see if the Quick Search function works properly.
That will inform us if it is my Default Profile that is the source of this issue as I have ruled out Extensions as being the cause.
I will do this right now it shouldn't take long and will report back soon.

I have found the source of the problem, when I go into the Orion Settings and go to the Search Settings if I disable/uncheck the options for Autocomplete Suggestions in for Search and History the Quick Search function fails.
I can completely disable 100% of all Autocomplete Suggestions in the Brave browser and still retain the Quick Search/Custom Search function. I have at least 10 Quick Search/Custom Searches set up in Brave and all function perfectly with Autocomplete Suggestions 100% completley disabled.
Please fix this bug in Orion so I can use the Quick Search functions with ZERO Autocomplete being active.
I only wish to see what I type into my address bar and absolutely ZERO autocomplete suggestions, as they the suggestions are usually incorrect.
Thanks for checking. This should be an easy fix.
Many thanks, I hope Orion's Quick Searches are fixed in the next update or next version of Orion.
I am using Orion Version 0.99.128.2.1-beta (WebKit 619.1.11.111.2)
Build date Aug 3 2024
Installed on my iMac which uses macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 build 23G93
When I go into the Orion Settings and go to the Search Settings if I disable/uncheck the options for Autocomplete Suggestions in for Search and History the Quick Search function fails.
Please fix this so I can use the Orion Quick Search functions with ZERO Autocomplete being active.
I only wish to see what I type into my address bar and absolutely ZERO autocomplete suggestions, for privacy concerns and the suggestions are usually incorrect.
I can completely disable 100% of all Autocomplete Suggestions in the Brave browser and still retain the Quick Search/Custom Search function. I have at least 10 Quick Search/Custom Searches set up in Brave and all function perfectly with Autocomplete Suggestions 100% completely disabled.
I wish to use the Orion Quick Search function with Autocomplete 100% completely disabled, this is easily done in the Brave Browser.

Quick searches are stored as bookmarks for Orion, so disabling bookmarks would disable quick searches.

Disabling/Unhecking the Autocomplete for Bookmark has NOT stopped my Quick Searches from working.
However the Quick Searches will not work if I uncheck or disable the Autocomplete Suggestions for Search, Unchecking the History Autocomplete has also disabled the Quick Search function.
After exhaustive checking of all my Orion Settings and Uninstalling/Reinstalling Orion and leaving it in an untouched "virginal" state those 2 items are the only options which block Quick Searches.
There has also been a new method added to create them, Go To the Orion Settings>Search>Manage Search Engines, There you will find Orion have added the ability to add a Quick Search/Custom Search. Using that method doesn't create a Bookmark to store your Quick Searches you have created.
After creating a Quick Search that way I very thoroughly checked all my Bookmarks and confirmed no new Bookmark was created. That method of creating the Quick Search/Custom Search is storing all the details there in Settings for Search.
The Quick Search function performed perfectly with ZERO Bookmarks.
However when I unchecked/disabled the Autocomplete Suggestions for Search, History, regardless if either one or both are disabled the Quick Searches are once again blocked.
This should NOT be happening when the new method is used to create Quick Searches/Custom Searches as no Bookmarks are involved or created.
Disabling anything in Autocomplete Suggestions should NOT ever block a Quick Search/Custom Search.
I have never, ever had this problem with the Brave Browser. In Brave's Settings I have disabled Absolutely everything related to the Autocomplete Suggestions, despite all the Automplete Suggestions being disabled the Quick Search/Custom Search function works perfectly.
Brave's method involves going into the Settings for the various Search Engines and adding a new Search Engine, once they are created the Quick Searches are stored there and work perfectly with Autocomplete Suggestions completely and totally disabled.
Thanks for the exploration. Can you summarize the bug please?

Are you being serious?,
If after reading everything posted above, Is it not quite obvious what the bug is?!!!!!!
Quick Searches/Custom Searches will NOT work if I disable/uncheck the Autocomplete Suggestions for Search and History.
Disabling one or the other or both items and the Quick Searches will not work.
I wish to have my Quick/Custom Searches working with 100% of all autocomplete suggestions disabled. This is for privacy reasons and the autocomplete suggestions are often not accurate.
I can have 100% of autocomplete suggestions disabled in the Brave browser and my 10 Quick Searches/Custom Searches work perfectly.
Sorry for being a bit snappy, but this is the 2nd time Orions Quick Searches have been giving me problems.

I fully understand that you have to read through a awful lot of posts here every single day, I imagine that would be a very tedious task and that would be a test of anybody's patience.
However, I believe that I had made it very clear and concise in the Topic /Heading for the post precisely what the issue is.
You only needed to read the very first post in this thread and pay close attention to details to clearly understand exactly what the technical issue/bug is that I am complaining about.
Orion's Quick Search/Custom Search function is giving me problems for the 2nd time and still not working properly.
Brave browser has had the same function since their browser was released and I have never, ever had problems with their Quick Search/Custom Search, In the Brave browser I have manually created at least 10 custom Quick Searches and Autocomplete is always completely and totally 100% disabled and the Quick search/Custom Search function works perfectly with no technical issues.
Could we please have an update as to when this will be fixed,
Disabling/unchecking the Search Suggestions for Bookmarks is still breaking my Quick Searches and will not permit them to work.

I simply asked if there was an update as to when this will be fixed.
I DID NOT MAKE ANY DEMANDS AT ALL.
I SIMPLY REQUESTED AN UPDATE ON THIS ISSUE.
I do not consider that I have been unreasonable or demanding. Especially when you consider that
I have been having various issues with the Orion Quick Search function since May 2024.
Yet after 5 months, the Quick Search function is still NOT working properly.
The Quick Search function is important to me personally, I have over 12 Quick Searches/Custom Searches which perform flawlessly in Chrome, Brave and Firefox. They enable me to very quickly and easily search my favourite websites in a quick, easy and convenient manner.
It is now almost halfway through October and the various technical issues with the Quick Search function are STILL ONGOING.
This is a very, very, very, very long wait of 5 months, during this time I believe that I have shown patience. I do indeed fully understand and appreciate that there are 2000 open issues.
You have previously indicated that this issue would only require a simple and quick easy technical fix, your statement raised my hopes that this issue would taken care of without too much delay.
Please throw us a lifeline and make an enquiry about approximately when we could possibly see this fixed at last after a very long, long, long, long, long wait.......................................................................
I very strongly believe that Orion should focus upon GET ALL EXISTING TECHNICAL ISSUES SORTED before adding even more features.
It is completely nonsensical to keep adding more and more features when the existing 2000 Technical Issues have not been fixed. Adding even more features, while there are 2000 existing Technical Issues which remain unresolved is absolutely ludicrous, this only serves to increase your work load.
Instead of piling in even more features I would much rather have a dependable browser with the vast majority of Technical issues fixed.
THEN AND ONLY THEN should more features be added
I simply can not recommend Orion as a stable browser to anyone.
Ongoing Technical Issues still not fixed after 5 very long months of waiting is simply not good enough.
Hey @jputting
I understand your frustration regarding the fact that a key feature your workflow needs is not functioning the way you believe it should, and I am indeed able to reproduce the behavior on my setup.
I also understand that Vlad has noted that this issue may have a simple fix in #8573 (the word should could also be carrying some heft in that post).
We all have our visions on what the Orion team should be focusing on, and while it is not something you necessarily wish to hear, this is a rather niche request as the vast majority of Orion users would be perfectly happy with there being search engine suggestions or history hits when typing their quick search query in the URL bar. It does not in any way complicate their workflow. An argument in favor of the privacy concern you have raised could be made but if you use a search engine that respects you privacy, it shouldn't be an issue that search suggestions are, for now, pulled from it even when using quick searches.
I'd like to thank you for supporting Orion, and for being passionate about improving the browser. I am sure this bug will eventually be addressed as it would indeed make sense to be able to use quick searches even with all autocomplete suggestions disabled. For now I have to ask you to remain patient and respectful, as the team is doing more than their best in bringing the absolute best browser for both macOS and iOS. We all have our own "if Orion had just this one feature I wouldn't have to use any other browsers", and one day we'll get there.
The team is hard at work even as I am typing this, and the next Orion desktop release is looking very exciting both with technical issues being fixed and new features being added — who knows whose "just this one thing" will be fixed or added next.
I will now be withdrawing all support for Orion and completely uninstalling it.
It is absolutely shameful and disgusting that technical issues still continue to arise with Quick Search after 5 months of waiting for this function to be fixed and work properly.
This is simply not a case of "if Orion had this one feature I would not have to use any other browsers",
It is a simple case that the Quick Search function has always had technical issues and never worked properly, this is despite repeated complaints. Yet after 5 months of waiting this function is STILL BROKEN.
Yet still there is NO END IN SIGHT FOR THIS MESS
It is simply NOT GOOD ENOUGH that you have still not sorted out the 2000 existing technical issues with Orion.
God only knows how long you will take to sort out the other 2000 issues reported here.
It is sheer idiocy to pile on even more features when 2000 complaints have NOT BEEN FIXED.
Adding more features while 2000 technical issues simply creates a much, much bigger workload for your technical team.
It is far better to get the basic functions working reliably and sort out the existing issues before piling on more features, which I can be certain will contain plenty of technical issues.
I am absolutely disgusted by the extremely long delays in regarding getting these problems fixed.
I WILL NO LONGER TOLERATE EXTREMELY LONG DELAYS FOR GETTING TECHNICAL ISSUES.
ORION BROWSER IS NOW COMPLETELY UNINSTALLED FROM MY MAC.
Using the Orion browser has been a very unpleasant and very frustrating experience as there are many, many technical faults which take forever to be fixed.
This simply a browser which I can not bear to use again. There are many technical bugs particularly in relation to Chrome Extensions not working properly.
The fact remains that I know many people whom have tried Orion and quickly uninstall it because of the sheer number of technical faults and things which simply do not work properly.
Orion is a very poor quality and badly performing browser and it is not suitable for everyday usage as my main browser.
The sheer number of technical issues and extremely long delays in fixing problems with Orion means that it will never achieve its goal of being the best browser for macOS and iOS.
Orion in its current state is the worst browser for macOS and iOS.
