What happened:

I mostly browse inside private/incognito mode. I just updated Orion to the latest version, and noticed that link previews (shift+click) is a new feature.

I noticed that when shift+clicking in private window, the preview window that pops up opens the page in normal mode.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Open imdb.com in normal window and log in
  • Open a new private window and load imdb.com, notice that your name will not show up in top right corner
  • Shift+click on any link, notice that the preview window displays your name in top right corner

Exptected behavior:

Preview windows should under no circumstance load preview windows with normal mode data.

frin Preview window is an equivalent of loading a browser tab in normal Orion window. This has many advantages like automatically logging you into services you need.

It is not clear how would Orion know that it should open it in private window?

    • frin replied to this.

Vlad if I am in a private window, and I open a preview window from it, I would expect it to open a private preview window, otherwise preview windows have no purpose to exist in private windows, cause they are leaking data to the website.

      Imagine this scenario:

I don't want imdb to track that I search for certain kind of content, so I open a private window where I am not logged in, I want to quickly preview a movie, and in current state it logs that view to my logged in user from the normal window, which I don't want.

So how the Orion would know if it should open in private window preview:

      • if I browse in normal window, use preview window with normal window session data
      • if I browse in private window, use preview window with private window/tab session data

Perhaps this bug is best demonstrated with a screenshot:

Notice that I am not logged in, in the background private window, but I am in the preview window (I shift+clicked inside private window). This should not load me as signed in just because I am logged in through normal window.

So I really think this is a big bug, not a feature suggestion.

frin Yes that makes sense. I assumed you were opening a preview window from an external app.
