Tabs become unresponsive on Orion 127.2

On my own demo app. I can reproduce this bug by redirecting the WKWebView between ChatGPT and a simple page back and forth. Using .load(_ urlRequest). Then it will happen at a magical time.

But on the Orion(0.99.127.3) (Not 3.1), I can't reproduce this bug by doing this. (I mean save these two pages as bookmarks. And click them.)

I remember when I first updated to 0.99.127.3, I still encountered this bug. But I didn't have this bug in the last 3 days.

What about everyone? Have you experienced this bug in the past 3 days?

This is my demo app. As you can see, at the end of the video, The mouse can no longer click on the WKWebView. The mouse did not even show as a "hand" cursor. It can be triggered on my Intel and M1 Mac, but can't on my friend's M1 Pro.

Vlad Not yet. I'm also trying to build WebKit from source to see if the latest Webkit has this problem.

It seems I was able to trigger it in the latest RC. Can anyone else confirm?

Edit: The website was having network issues so maybe a different issue was triggered. Will continue to test and update my findings.

I can confirm that the latest update brought some kind of huge bug. Certain tabs refuse to load fully and become incredibly slow. Orion starts to lag a great deal to the point that it starts changing focus to other tabs by itself, stops responding to keyboard shortcuts, etc. Frankly, it makes the browser completely unusable.

Unresponsive tabs seem to happening a lot more since upgrading to version 0.99.128-beta (WebKit 619.1.11.111.2) a few days ago.

wincent Interesting I don't think I've had an unresponsive tab situation since upgrading to 0.99.127.3.3 and I haven't seen it yet on Version 0.99.128 (granted it's only been 3 days so knock on wood...). I mainly use Orion on Catalina and Mojave.

I'm also seeing tabs become unresponsive still after upgrading to 0.99.128-beta (WebKit 619.1.11.111.2).

It shows up as the cursor disapearing, the highlight color becoming muted and typing not working correctly in all tabs. The mouse cursor also does not change when hovering over links.

Tabs are still mostly usable, but without a cusor it's hard to know where you're typing.

I'd previously used the workaround, but it seems like that user proference has been removed now so it's likely not having an effect anymore.

@matt-oakes I have also seen the behaviour you are describing but it would be best to create a new issue for it since it's not the same as this issue, which was a different kind of unresponsive.

Jdb I have this issue on the latest iOS versions and it has gotten worse over the last couple weeks. While browsing, interacting with the tab button (which has become my nemesis), or switching back to the app, the interface will lock up, freezing and becoming unresponsive. I searched past threads here and your comment describes my issue exactly, 8 months later. Like you, bringing up the app switcher and flicking up to force quit Orion is the only solution I have found. However I am having to do it often enough I thought I would post here, thank you all for taking the time to document this. Cc @Vlad + happy new year everyone! Long live Kagi and Orion!

I recently switched to orion and I noticed this happening a lot, sadly I cant consistently reproduce it but it is still very prominent.

I'm new to Orion (started using on the 5th of September) and I have seen the same issue from the start of my use. I'm slightly lost as to which thread to report in, I see a few active.

The symptoms I see are websites becoming very slow when using, and tabs seemingly becoming non-responsive. Restarting Orion fixes the problem for while. The tab issue is very rare, but the slowing websites seem to be daily.

I noticed on one restart of the browser, in Activity Monitor, that there was an Orion extension process that was using > 90% CPU. But I didn't see that on the next slowdown occurence. I've just seen the Google Calendar process usage sitting at 100%. I've killed that with Activity Monitor, and I now see the Orion Web Content process sitting at 100%. Orion Web Content was at 100% for no longer than 10 min. However I have just seen another process for a tab that is pinned but not in focus leap to 90% for about 15 seconds before dropping back. I’ve been monitoring for the last hour while using Orion, and I haven’t seen this behaviour again.

Generally I see these issues occur after several solid hours of use. I will have 3 windows with > 30 tabs across these windows (Gmail/Calendar, JIRA, Github are always pinned). I use a similar ridiculous tab setup on Safari and Firefox. I have seen no issues on Safari, but I have rarely seen Firefox failing to load websites or tabs stop working, requiring a Firefox restart (this lead me to start using Orion). I leave my machine and Orion open always (unless I needed to restart Orion).

I have 2 Chrome extensions, 1Password (8.11.10.37) and Consent-o-Matic (1.1.3). I have horizontal tabs. I am using an M1 Pro with 32GB of RAM on macOS 15.6. Orion is at 0.99.136-beta.

I’m extremely excited about switching to Orion on Linux (which lead me to trying Orion on macOS), so I hope these papercuts can be resolved before general release.
